It is you to whom I must say no, bro.

Japanese nouns don't need the たち suffix to be plural. It's sometimes used to give context when there is a possibility for confusion as to whether the noun in question is plural or singular. It's NOT required, though, and is only used SOMETIMES. Its existence does not invalidate the correctness of the unmodified noun to signify plural form.

It also doesn't change the fact that trying to pluralize foreign words by slapping an s onto the end of them makes you look fucking stupid. So quit it.

You can just add "s" to most nouns in English to make them plural (and, although it might aggravate the autists here, "ninjas" and "samurais" are both acceptable plurals in English). A few older English and Latin words are the main exceptions to the "pluralize with 's'" rule (e.g. "ox" and "oxen").

When I hear otome, I just think of girls or girls that may be casually interested in otome games.
Fujoshi is a girl that enjoys BL or yaoi, and usually cosplays.
Both are generally fashionable and relatively normal socially speaking (minus some extreme fujoshi).

Female otaku are totally different from those two. I know I can't get along with either of them and definitely don't relate to fujoshi, so I definitely do not want to be called one. Female otaku are just like regular male otaku... but female. They like moe, dojinshi based on cute and sexy female characters, maybe even like Touhou.

We're just a bit more isolated.

Hi guys, OP here, I finished the article, I came to a conclusion that you can't stop cultural changes and influences while importing another nation's term and pop culture. So, the creation of terms that doesn't exist in the original culture, but are still in the original language, are acceptable as a metamorphic process created by those influences during the assimilation of a new culture by an already existing one.

Anyway, have more Ohana. Loli Ohana.

According to a cursory Google search, "octopuses" is actually the most popular (barely), with "octopi" second, and "octopodes" a distant third. Mind, it's not definitive, but you didn't exactly offer any evidence for "octopi" being the most popular.

>What matters is that it shows that with foreign words, people are naturally using the form that they perceive is correct in source language.
I doubt most people are actively thinking about Latin's second declension for nominative when they misapply it to a word of Greek extract (since most people don't know Latin or Greek). Rather, they're copying the form they've seen written elsewhere and are comfortable with using. The fact is "octopi" isn't correct in the source language. Neither is "ninjas" and that's my point: English words have a long tradition of being pluralized "incorrectly" according to the source language, and plurals for words taken from Japanese are only following a long grammatical tradition. Pluralizing them by adding an "s" isn't grammatically incorrect in English.

That's right. It used to be acceptable in the fandom to repurpose Japanese words into some completely different meaning back in the 80s, which has, unfortunately, given us terms like "hentai". No, I mean more comfortable with as in "by analogy to other words in English it may be right". "Octopi" by analogy with "incubi" may seem etymologically correct, but it isn't. Also, people aren't more comfortable with using any given foreign pluralization, just with those that seem familiar. For example, "assassin" doesn't have an Arabic plural in English; it's just "assassins".

Note the difference, though - the word assassin is fully assimilated, significantly changed in meaning and spelling to the point where it stopped resembling the original. Octopus, on the other hand, remains unchanged from its Latin spelling, and appears to be a purely Latin word.

Otome (anime, hentai, doujinshi, etc.), likewise, remains unchanged from its Japanese transliteration. When and if the spelling changes to phonetic (otohmeh?), or the pronunciation to fitting the spelling (/'otəʊm/?), there will be some argument to be made about the word being subject to English grammatical rules. Not earlier, though.
