Reimu would be the kind of student that breezes through school but acts lazy, as though everything comes easy to her. She treats learning like a bother but even though it may seem she doesn't pay attention she remembers everything.

Marisa would be a high flying student always bragging about her results and athletic ability, acting as though she's naturally talented. In reality she spends all her spare time exercising and studying to be the best but doesn't want people to know.

Alice would put up a front of being strong and independent, acting as those she doesn't need friends and people are happy to leave her alone because of her strange obsession with figures. In reality she envies others but when pressed about it will act as though she's happy the way she is.

Cirno would be simple on the lowest end of the class scores. A bit better with athletics perhaps but she wouldn't be anything special, however she strongly insists she's the smartest and most athletic girl in the class. Doesn't study, prefers to play and joke.

Sakuya would be known to keep to herself in class, only occasionally mixing with others but everyone knows the only person she cares about is a younger student in another class whom she prepares a lunch box for along with her own, every day. Although the girl she likes is able to look after herself with her strong personality, Sakuya won't hear a word against her and will defend her to the hilt regardless of fault.

I always figured the idea was that Marisa works hard to impress everyone else with her strength and style, but doesn't want them to know she actually worked for it. Maybe it's just a difference of view because it's not like everyone takes the same thing from Touhou, but to me Marisa is the normal witch that works hard to be the flashiest Touhou with the most powerful over the top spell cards. Everything else about her is mundane when she's alone, but around everyone else it's star filled danmaku and kick ass charisma doing whatever she wants in front.

Bragging I can concede, I was using it to make her 'strength' more apparent to others when in a school environment it's a bit more limited to what you can see. Some things don't translate so well from strength in danmaku to good results.

Also, I figure she's normal at home because her home is pretty mundane, she eats fairly normal things and conducts fairly normal magical research at home. Marisa seems to come into character most when she's with others, but like I said it's a difference in opinion, who am I to tell you you're wrong when we've only got limited information given to use by ZUN, I imagine he leaves it vague for exactly that reason. Hell, the different ideas that come about in doujins only help to strengthen peoples love for the series.
