there's a whole lot of stuff you can do with the dummy function.

for example, you can record multiple blockstrings from your most hated character in separate slots. then you can turn the dummy on, set it to select a random slot, and test your defense against the randomly chosen strings.

In melty you don't beat f-v.akiha/kohaku/maids/nero/etc. with a non top-tier character unless they don't know how to play at all. Shit there was a dude at one point who won tougeki 2v2 with f-v.akiha who was, uh, not practiced to say the least.

You seem to believe that ``top-tier'' characters can just press X to win. If you're playing against someone who has a good matchup (or ``tier-advantage'') against you, you WILL need to put in more effort. It's highly unlikely that either of you is playing optimally so it's not like you have no chance to win.
If you really do have no chance to win, it's clearly not a result of the character alone.

GGs. If you're the person I'm correctly remembering, then I have to thank you for making those beginner tutorial videos a while back. I owe all of my current, meager skill thanks to them. One thing that you may want to clarify are the subtleties of what a reset is during a block string. You made the concept of staggers clear and easy to understand, but the part on resets isn't as clear (or maybe I'm just doing it run.) Rather, the concept seems simple but it's not trivial to implement. Perhaps in the future you should elaborate more on how to properly reset blockstrings.

There are plenty of people in fighting game history that have wrecked tournaments with non-top tier characters.

This thread is proof of why tier lists are such a bad idea:

1. Despite what some salty losers will cry about the difference between tiers in Melty is insignificant and you can win while playing whoever you want. Victories in Melty are determined by how many mistakes each players makes, and everyone makes mistakes in this game.

2. If you are looking for a tier list in the first place the information you are reading is gauging gameplay that is above your level.

Not to mention that that tier lists are only relative. The groups aren't a firm caste that that character is locked to for eternity.

By no means does it establish how many tools the characters have, what their specific matchups are, etc.

Results aren't about the properties, but what players make of those properties.

I have a question regarding MB.

I remember seeing that ReACT is an extension to MB. Does that mean ReACT is MB + extra, or do I have to play MB first before playing ReACT? I'd like to start Melty Blood the right way.

>> No.9943020

>>9942969
MB has few plot differences over the course of its franchise, so you should treat ReAct as MB + extra. The later games do not contribute much additional plot. In fact, Act Cadenza entirely removes the entire VN aspect that was well done in ReAct Final Tuned, leaving only bits of any semblance of a story.

If you want story, play ReAct Final Tuned. If you want to play an up to date fighter, play MBAACC.

>> No.9943042

If I'm understanding this correctly, there are literally no plot differences between MB and Re-Act, right? And any plot difference is after Re-Act?

I'd do more lab time, you still got those habits from before to crush, and more setups and opportunities to exploit.
Stuff like 2CC'ing, following up ice flower appropriately, raw air throw combo, etc
You also still poke during inappropriate situations during trying to anti-air, upon wakeup and in blockstrings. Though it helped me find holes in my pressure, the majority of your pokes seemed to be blind.

You are still improving nicely, don't be disheartened.

>> No.9966002

This is probably a stupid question, but if I shouldn't be trying to poke through it when there's a delay, how can I escape pressure? If it's midscreen I know backdashing is an option, but if I'm in the corner, should I just be blocking, poking when there's clearly a hole, and looking for opportunities to jump out or ice flower? Maybe it's just my reaction time being abysmal, or maybe there's something I'm overlooking, but whenever I try that I end up getting grabbed and hit with overheads.

>> No.9966231

>>9966002
>how can I escape pressure?
there's a multitude of things you can try, and yes, mashing/poking through strings is a valid option if the string feels endless/not tight enough (typically when your opponent is laying on the pressure heavily there will be some point where they have to dash up, make an unsafe RB, etc. that can be caught by a fast normal). the problem, i'm guessing, is that you're not poking at these times, but rather during staggers intended to catch your buttons.

when you're in the corner, generally you should be looking to get out. good opponents will be watching for this of course, but again, it's just a matter of finding the right time to escape.
