Please read 2-3 sites before playing and even then try the singleplayer games first.
Playing without knowing what you do is not only frustrating for yourself but also for your opponents, a player that left because he couldn't ron for his no Yaku hand or because someone ron'd his discard just kills the whole fun for everyone.

Usually, a game lasts around 30 minutes, so please, if you're not going to stay until the end, respect the other players and don't join a new game.

Also keep in mind that Mahjong is more a game of "not losing" than straightforward winning.
Furthermore you play with 3 other people and luck plays a big part in it, so dont expect to win more than 1 out 4 games, especially not as a beginner.

Are you getting that as a pop-up error when launching? If so, you'll probably just have to reinstall the game (or reinstall the appropiate ActiveX version).

Are you getting that when trying to log in? If so, I have no fucking idea what's going on, but you may want to try registering again (via sign-up button on upper-right part of their website)... but I don't see how that'd fix your ActiveX issue. Also what other alternatives there are besides Tenhou and JanRyuMon, I prefer JRM just because of the elo system it has. Are there any alternatives with rankings? Tenhou doesn't have rankings so it feels pointless to me.

I don't even understand you. The point of mahjong is to play against other people, not against a computer. It's just like the individuals in Saki; shorter games are more suited to draw out monsters, not players. I suppose that if that's what you're looking for, then fine, but 4p is the traditional method of playing and should be what everyone strives to play when there are enough people.

Playing on a table is literally the best thing ever. Finished 3 full han chans in only 2 hours. Playing without a table takes about 1 han chan in 2 hours, epically when I play with slow fucks who don't know how to play.

So you can only win on a self-draw if your only yaku is menzen tsumo. You would need to riichi to be able to ron.

Why is Japan and China so bad at making games?

Mahjong is such a bloated mess. The only Japanese board game that is any good is Shogi and that's just another chess clone.

The best games are things like card games. Anyone can pick up the rules within minutes, but there's still a high skill ceiling and it's great for gambling.

Sounds like you've never tried to teach someone how to play a card game who doesn't already know the rules. The basics of mahjong are pretty simple, it's the scoring that's complicated, and interestingly enough mahjong can be played with a deck of cards but most people don't like to. I really don't see how it's any harder than, say, poker, plus mahjong is way more fun and worldwide is the single most popular table top game (including card games, board games, chess etc).

Maybe the fact that you probably already know a couple card games makes it easier to pick up another but that doesn't say anything about the absolute difficulty of either game.
