ZERO-G on their new VOCALOID Avanna

Avanna is almost ready. The voice will be completed by the end of this month and we expect a release date of early December at the latest.

She sounds pretty good - probably the best sounding English Vocaloid so far. Sweet and quite high pitched but sounding good across a wider range than the other Engloids.

The artwork is almost complete and we will probably release that to the public in the coming weeks. It's and illustration - no stock images! We're just need to complete the Wording.

Best Regards

Dom Keeffe

Piko doesn't seem to get much attention like Ryuto (Gachapoid) and Mew so unless an amazing song and PV is made for him he won't be popular.(GUMI was seriously unpopular before Mozaik Role)

Why are you even using it in english?

Why do you want to read silly fan translated song names instead of the original song names? I don't get why people do this btw, as it only alienates the userbase (people not knowing the original names is pretty bad), it creates confusion because there's often different translations for the same song, and these translations can often take away the original meaning the producer had in mind, like how 164 named his song 天ノ弱 (Ama no Jaku) and people translated it as Heaven's Weakness, but it's actually a reference to 天邪鬼 and that's easily seen on the lyrics. People don't do it with anime and I don't understand why is this practice such a proeminent thing between the english speaking Vocaloid autists.

Why do you want to interact with the english speaking fanbase?

Do you have autism?

Not saying they shouldn't translate song names, but they shouldn't be on the title, the main problem is that people treat title translations as the actual name. That's wrong.

Is because it is based on an elementary school setting with 3 child voices (2 girls and a boy) plus and adult (I can't find the demo) and they are scared of porn being released (Remember in 2007 Crypton had a ban on Miku porn) and due to the fact that when they announced them in 2009 Yuki and Kiyoteru were released a month later with the same theme.

The Vocaloid Trans-Pacific Project is a project to spread Vocaloid to the U.S.--with an emphasis on the user-generated/musician side and not the characters. It's also a collaboration between Vocaloid and the Japanese government's Cool Japan Project, which intends to promote modern Japanese culture throughout the world. They hope to create a foundation for a Vocaloid fandom similar to the one in Japan. Hightrancesea's article below, naturally, goes into a lot more detail about their plans, even including general dates.

I'm super excited for this it will actually give a chance for western producers to become a part of the VOCALOID fandom

It's 2012.

We don't have flying cars or moon colonies, but we do have singing, computer generated pop idols from Japan (complete with concert holograms). Maybe I'm a bit late to realize it, but Vocaloid sounds like something right out of an 80's cyberpunk novel.

On that note, what's /jp/'s favorite utaite?

Yeah, I can't imagine Vocaloid being popular at all here in the states.

Maybe it's just me but I've never heard a single English-language Vocaloid that I like, and Vocaloid just seems to work well with (and only with) Japanese pop culture and anime, I'm having a hard time articulating why though.

I highly doubt that it'd be ever a good idea to do this. They're not gonna try publicize vocaloid for a stronger vocaloid fan foundation. They want MONEY. Read the thread on VO and you'll see what i'm talking about.

hightrancesea, one of the guys behind this project, is saying that he knows that the popularity of vocaloid as characters is stable enough, and wants to establish stability with the popularity of vocaloid as A SOFTWARE; a music-making platform. What do you all think he means by this? To me, I believe he's trying to reach out for a newer demographic for vocaloid. For him to do that, that would ultimately degenerate the true values of vocaloid as people will think that purchasing Vocaloid is an investment. It's almost like Bioware saying they want the Call of Duty audience for their games, for example. Hopefully, we all know how that went, and now the same thing might end up happening to vocaloid if this project falls through.

You know what else? Crypton's not with this project. They know that this idea is VERY bad idea.

Part of the reason vocaloids sound like shit in english is because the base of each vocaloid is a japanese non-native speaker. And we all know how engrishy they can get.

Migrating miku to the states is a bad idea, if they want normals to care, they're going to need to make a completely new one from scratch with an English base singer, or else it's always going to sound awful and engrishy.

Part of the reason miku was a bad choice, even though she's popular, is because you literally need an english base to make her sing english properly, and i doubt her original base can speak english in a fluent sense.

So you either make miku sound completely different between her english and japanese versions, or make her sing engrish. Not to mention the anime style to her character design is very offputting to normals, as well.

I do happen to know more places to download more albums, but I don't know if I'll want to mention that UNLESS the FAQ is strictly for vocaloid fans. I do like the idea of a FAQ regardless though, but I don't know if it should be available to everyone or just to a private selection of people.

as for the sample songs from each Vocaloid voice bank, I actually have that included in my document that I mentioned. I think it's best to leave my examples in the document because in the case that I want the FAQ to be only seen by those who want to get into the know of things, the other audience who just wants to know about vocaloid won't probably bother reading more things about newer voice banks. I've also hyperlinked the mentioned voice banks on the document, so they can just click on the name of the voice name to go to the wiki page to find out more of the specific voice bank.

Hello everyone. We have another big announcement. After a suspenseful wait, Zero-G has announced that Avanna's official artwork will be released this Thursday, November the 8th. The company ran into a few snags with the final design, but luckily they were taken care of with no problems, and the boxart itself will be complete in the next few days.

The artist for Avanna has also been revealed. The Vocaloid producer Aki Glancy, also known as EmpathP (yes I realize I'm the one writing this, just go with it, pretend I'm not here, lol) was commissioned back at the beginning of August by Zero-G to create Avanna's official artwork after sending in a Resume 6 months prior.

The design has gone through several changes since it's initial rough draft. At the end of October, Aki was asked to make one final revision of the artwork based upon requests from Yamaha. However, the artwork is at last completed and Aki will be posting it to her own deviantart account, as well as her pixiv once Zero-G reveals the boxart on Thursday.

We want to thank you all for your patience and your enthusiasm towards Avanna, and we hope you will all love her image once it is revealed.

And another reminder of Avanna initial test demo reveal at Nekocon 15. We will be posting a link to the footage as soon as it is edited.
