Find ways to play at home, if the price keeps you from practice.
Get a controller + (jpn)PS2 / simulator / arcade rips.

No home set up can beat the arcade/social experience of IIDX. With e-amuse, big lagless display, perfect feel on keys and turntable, I'd say play as frequently as you can on the cab before it's gone and you start to regret it. Arcade timing is also the timing you would like to adjust and get used to.

You're really lucky to have Lincle near you,
I would need to travel 2.5-3.5 hours to the nearest machine.

Thank you. I saved up for a long while to get my Dao and had enough money for months. It wasn't until that the standard KOC stopped not sticking regardless of the cardboard, shuffling keys around, etc. that I decided to give in. The only problems i had with the DAO was one key not regging (due to the spring being caught on something, but taking it out and putting it back in fixed that up) and one of the L.E.D.s not being fully responsive for whatever reason, but that didn't effect the performance so I don't really give that much of a shit.

I used to also have the beatmania US KOC. I thought it was much better than the Japanese controller early on, but as I played more I noticed that although it behaved MUCH better than the Japanese KOC, but it always felt like it was a bit delayed, kind of like playing IIDX with the pop'n music KOC. Still, it was fun for playing some doubles, even if I was pretty bad at DP because my left hand is kind of dumb.

As for the current state of the franchise, I stopped caring about the music in the series around Empress due to what I consider a HUUUUUUGE quality drop between Gold and Troopers musically, and Empress not doing nearly enough to pick up the slack. Even if I could run IIDX AC titles without problem on my laptop and had a Bemanisos account (not gonna happen due to being mostly a shitposter on VJA and BMS over half a decade ago), I probably wouldn't care enough to download any of them except a fully-unlocked Tricoro, which won't be available until MONTHS from now.

You keeping playing. It also helps if you have different styles since some are harsher than others or have speed mods that behave differently. I got a kick about how much faster 3 speed was in 3rd style than it was in games like 7th, 9th, and Happy Sky, which were my first three CS titles. Just playing the same titles and songs is like banging your head against a brick wall.

I like to break up the console games into eras.

First: 3rd-5th (beginning)
Second: 6th-8th (High Speed 4)
Third: 9th-10th (Hardware switch. Better FPS and no more overly saturated lanes flares)
Fourth: RED-DistorteD (Sudden+ and separate ratings for [a] charts)
Fifth: GOLD-Empress (Green Sudden+)

Fourth and Fifth are most similar to each other, so if you only have those titles and want to diversify, you'll want to go backwards (further is usually better, but avoid 5th CS. Fuck 5th). If you aren't experimenting with different speed mods, towel or Sudden+, do it. If you aren't using Random, use it. If you're ONLY using random, turn that shit off every now and then.

The menu is normal. that happens in the arcade too.
In game, you might have set one side of it to register as a both in the key selection. I suggest going into keys and hitting F2 to reset the key settings, and doing them yourself. Either way, I doubt it's the converters fault.

Well, the downside is you probably have to stick to the newer games since they have the latency adjustment setting which the earlier games (up to 10th?) don't have. I think the minimum sound latency is 50ms (I've used 100ms). This works well, but there it's going to cause the graphics to be out-of-sync ever so slightly. I found it to be quite playable, though, and so far it seems more straightforward than getting an AC version up and running properly.

There aren't rhythm game conventions. However, the Bemani Invasion crew have been hauling their cabinets to the big anime conventions and events around the East Coast and the Midwest.

jubeat level 10 songs are easy to pass, but memorizing the chart and adjusting muscle memory to specific patterns take some practice. Konami should someway bump of the difficulty though if songs are being EXC'ed the week they come out. (looking at you DIAVOLO)

I hit a wall at level 9 personally. Up to 8 is no problem. 9 is fine for certain songs (but for some it's awful). 10 however is out of my reach.

As for jubeat, yeah way too many EXC out there. And level 10 can be cleared really quickly. You don't even need a full month of practice to clear Lv10, from C for the hardest ones to A or S for some easy ones.

Getting EXC still requires a lot of practice. I have yet to EXC anything while I can easily SSS anything level 8 or below, and SS level 9. I always do one or two great...

Pic related, it's a mess atm.

Anyone know if bemaniso have a lot of users with good knowledge with actual arcade cabs?
it would be the only reason for me to join if a lot of cab owners hangs out there.

So, how do I get LR2 to go widescreen. I understand that the output is not HD but, all the youtube videos I watch have it fitting widescreen. Do I have to stretch it somehow? I've been playing months with these black bars on screen and it's really bugging me.

Coincidental thread. I found 2 of the US IIDX controllers (one with no box) for 7.99 CAD each.

Anyone know if they differ from the JP controllers? I had the KASC once, thought it was large awkward shit, preferred the smaller versions and barely used it.

The US controller has a slightly stiffer turntable. Instead of easily removable plungers, the USKOC uses glued-on "tit" pads on the sensors. Since they do not use plungers, the keys have "sliders" on the side, which easily break off, but this seems to have very minimal influence on the performance from my experiences.

US KOCs are MUCH easier to clean and stick drastically less, but at the cost of performance. Just don't expect to get any really great scores with them, especially compared to the Japanese KOC.

>> No.9887071

>>9887055
This is really not true, in fact if you hang out around the bemani pig disgusting community, you find that scorers who don't fork out for a Dao usually work with USKOCs. A lot of people wax paper mod the turn tables though. Whereas with JKOC you need to mod the keys.

>> No.9887077

>>9887071
Though Small Waves might have been talking about the lower USKOC polling rate. But that only really matters if you use it with LR2 on the PC.
On that note if you do I found the etokki PS2->PC used by all the fighting game fags works great, no noticeable lag even without overclocking the USB ports.

If you plan on playing LR2, use a JKOC. USKOC are fine for PS2, but they don't work too well with adapters. I've seen good scores on both a JKOC and USKOC.

7.99 CAD is pretty cheap, I'd say go for it and learn doubles on a PS2. IIDX controllers usually go for 30-50 USD shipped.

So the USKOC is bad for LR2? How about the HDD rips?

>> No.9887313

>>9887265
I would assume the same, because you are using an adapter to connect it to the PC.

LR2 does have adjustment timing in game and is not too difficult to sync compared to HDD rips.

Good evening /jp/, what is the reccomended ps2 adapter if I want to pl;ay LR2,OpenITG and Taiko on PC? I've had some adapters int he past, but they had quite a delay and it was irritating.

>> No.9887374

If you overclock your USB to 500~1000hz, it should be fine. Only a few adapters allow that though. "Radioshack 26-729" is known to be able to do this and I heard of good results coming from someone using a USKOC to play on the PC.

Also, anyone have any advice on hand positions. I find my hands physically can not make certain cords and stuff so I'm wondering if my hand positions are fucked up.

>> No.9897484

>>9897036

Use your thumbs. If you use your thumbs and your non-pinky fingers you have 8 digits for 7 keys so you should be able to hit anything comfortably. There isn't a 100% correct way to do everything, it's just whatever works best for you, so experiment until you find your style.

>> No.9897527

>>9897036
I hope you're not doing one hand on turntable and one on keys like I started out with. I never watched videos of others playing before and just assumed that's how it was supposed to be done. I never was able to do both hands on keys and pinky/heel scratches on anything over about a 5 but I could never do anything much harder than Rising in the Sun (A) the other way. I pretty much gave up on IIDX about 2 years ago when things kept getting harder and harder yet I'd been at a skill plateau for roughly a year.

>> No.9897552

>>9897036
A lot of it has to do with muscle memory. If one hand is stronger than the other and that's bogging down your progress, training mode and mirror helps (random has a chance/mostly used to make charts easier to time and combo and throws luck into the equation). If you have two controllers, doubles is another good option.

As for scratching, using your pinkie is standard for higher level charts. You will never learn to properly do it unless you commit yourself to trying to time the scratches and the 1/2 keys instead of just BSing it.

Thanks guys, just as I asked this I started to adapt. The position I tend to hover over is 4 fingers - pinky on the left keys (p2) and three on the right with pinky scratch.

>>9897552
Yeah, I am actually BSing it, I kind of use the middle of my hand to his 1 key when I pinky scratch. I will try and get used to moving my fingers across.

1 3 5 7

Your left thumb should control key 1 and 3. 1 when there is a lot of scratch notes coming down. Your right thumb would be on 5 like 80% of the time. When your left thumb is busy hitting the 1 key, sometimes your right thumb can assist with the 3 key.

There's no point. Japanese rips tend to end up on Share months before a sows release anyways.
The older leaks were mostly a shitstorm because they were released while the games were still in arcades.
