Too bad that I am pretty much blind with my absolute awful shortsight and I don't like wearing glasses. Contact lenses sound uncomfortable and lasering is expensive and sounds dangerous.

>> No.9816202

God DAMN. It's not even a Japanophile thing, these pictures are beautiful. It's like they got the perfect balance between civilization and nature. In my country "rural" means absolutely flat terrain as far as the eye can see and maybe a couple of trees here and there.
These pictures feel more... right.
I wouldn't mind settling there. We could share a satellite dish between all the locals.

>> No.9816223

Japanese dude here, visiting for god knows what reason. I saw a nice picture, actually. It is a really nice country, and the people are mostly very kind, respectful, and honest. Many are strict and follow etiquette rules very closely. It is indeed an expensive country, but it is quite worth it. A delicious meal of mackerel and napa stew can be served in america for upwards of ten dollars, wheras its considered a poor mans meal in japan. I would recommend, for the wealthy, tokyo or another large city purely due to the amazing shopping and entertainment. Especially for younger ones. For more relaxed or less financially stable people, moving to japan is a great choice, as you will be mostly free of the worry of western politics (or any, for that matter..) and even possible be eligible to learn from a shinto monk. I stayed for quite some time myself, but sadly the rest of my english sided family lives in New Orleans, and i couldnt stay.

Let it be said that standards are high, as well. It may be a wonderful place too, but no country has met the darkness and lurid culture of japan either. Making enemies there is not a wise idea, and unfortunately being unhealthy or too attractive will pretty much end your chances of marriage there. Note that the above does not apply to moderate black people. Ugly is ugly, but "The land of young women" Is short on them, and yes, most japanese people are rather unsatisfying in bed (men). Thank god im not mr pencil wang over here. Lets just say that seven is good there, and if youre like me and are not only well endowed but really fit, ect, you will pretty much have an amazing time there. Seriously. I got mobbed, almost literally.

Thats not a good thing sometimes though. I REALLY wanted to eat my soba in peace that day.

Plan ahead my friends! Secure a small house, as all of them are nice, choose a slightly rural area, and counting the plane ticket, unless you plan on working or earning money there, have at least one thousand set aside per couple weeks. Also, knowing basic japanese is useful, but most there know a tad of engrish.

A bicycle, scooter, or moped will serve you best for transit. Have a basket on it though, for stuff. The living there is excellent, should you make a few investments into a nicer house and be a cheap person with airplane ticketing. To find a place, simply learn some japanese, get on that scooter thing you rented or bought (bringing one is hard) and ask for directions to a nearby town. Go there, and simply go around asking people, making polite conversatio explaining that you are visiting from wherever you are from. Soon, should you bring it up often, someone should offer you or lead you to a nice space. If not, small hotels are common. Also, feel free to eat there. I have eaten five full meals per day there and gotten healthier. The food will expire fast so good cooking skills are needed. You may have to shop for grocery daily.

While some areas are home to a few plants of a western origin, most rural areas are fine. Rural usually means countryside, and has plenty of rice feilds, or if you are unlucky, industry. Japanese plants tend to be very hardy and resistant. Take bamboo and kudzu for example. They mess over america, and yet are unhindered in japan. Its usually no problem there. There tend to be many, MANY trees and a few dead bodies (especially the suicide forests of mount fuji) but usually you will find a dirt path. Try and bring a few trinkets to leave at any shrine you pass. It is a nice feeling to do that. Otherwise, they are usually like any other forest, albeit a bit less cluttered and jungle like. more just a bunch of trees and grasses.

There was a big storm/strong wind or somesuch and it fell over. How sad. It was really a sight to see; fucking ENORMOUS, supposedly hundreds of years old, and supposedly used in at least one historical assassination. I found a picture I took of it back in 2007.

Happily, what's left of the trunk seems to be growing a bunch of new little shoots now.

Living peacefully in rural Japan is my dream. Any advice on one day achieving this, /jp/?

What about employment without a degree?

Any of those of you familiar with rural Japan have any idea about what region/village Sotoba from Shiki is based off of? There are lots of background shots with posterized photographs of buildings and such (kinda small in this spread but you can see a bunch and I'm not about to look through the whole thing for specific examples). I get the feeling that, much as with Higurashi, it was based off an actual location.

Had to post this...

I like the landscapes of rural Japan, also central Europe (Switzerland, Southern Germany, parts of France). To me: green, fantastical forests with a sense of ancient history and magic are where I want to be. I come from Illinois which has to be the fucking flattest place on earth. If I drive out from my suburban wooded river-valley area into the heart of the state, it is just perfectly flat horizons of corn and soy, run down everything, ugly early-to-mid 20th century storefronts, barns, etc.

Yeah, compared to the Europe and the Orient, America doesn't have much in the way of old historical beauty. The natives were primarily nomadic or lived in temporary dwellings so they left a bunch of dirt mounds. The early American dwellings were pretty much log cabins or bland wood-frame houses. The cities obviously have more to offer. But going out to the country you aren't going to find majestic ancient temples tucked away in hillsides. You're just going to find grain elevators, old barns, Walmart, and lowest-bidder pre-fab houses/churches.

>Rural destinations in East Asia - "The garden in this Buddhist monastery has been maintained by monks for 600 years. This beauty and serenity is the effort of generations of love and dedication."

But I'm not saying I want to preserve my body. I'm saying I want my biomass to return to the natural cycle.

>Traditional Burial
>Energy and resources consumed to harvest raw materials to make casket (wood and metal) and concrete box.
>Energy and resources consumed to assemble and finish said boxes
>Body drained of blood and pumped full of preservatives (energy and resources required for those too, not to mention the process).
>Energy/resources spent in procession.
>Body sealed away within box within concrete box. Precious biomass is lost to the world.

>Cremation
>Energy spent to gather resources to generate energy necessary to cremate body.
>Precious biomass is destroyed, leaving behind carbon and releasing pollutants.

From either a naturalistic spiritual or a cold mathematical perspective, these two methods seem terribly wasteful.
