Games in Japanese for someone who has a couple of college semesters of Japanese but has a long way to go and has trouble remembering things.

Any good roms to start off with for a first time Japanese game player?

Videogames are for dorks, go and play outside with your friends.

Most NES and Game Boy games only use kana. A few SNES games do. If you want something with kanji, play a more recent JRPG.

There was some computer JRPG intended to help Japanese learners remember kanji and such, but I forgot its name.

Why not start trying some visual novels?

You can use agth to hook the code to a blank page in firefox, and apply Furigana inserter/rikaichan as you see fit.

So far, it's expanded my vocabulary by 5-10 words/hr.
