/a/ here. I was browsing through some of my archived 4chan screengrabs, and I noticed something odd. How is it that some of the old /b/ threads that were posted around 2003-2005, that if they were posted today, would have been posted here? I find it very odd.

Are those supposed to be examples? Because there's nothing like that on /jp/. In 2008-09, maybe, but not now.

/jp/ is actually closer to /b/ of '04 and '05 than you would think.

There's a reason ARCADE BUMSTEAD FROM PORKSLOPE TURKEYHANDLE became popular, and that's because we were weeaboo faggots.

Well I'm not sure about being a weeaboo, as that was never the case, but /jp/ definitely resembles an earlier /b/.

/jp/ is nothing like old /b/

Old /b/ was about being stupid for the sake of being stupid and fun. They spammed silly memes. /jp/ hates this stuff.

Get over yourselves. /jp/ is shit.

That's only because the spirit of 4chan has died inside you, but it still burns brightly inside me.

>> No.9812382

>>9812374
Striving to have a post with a "significant" number is common across all internet communities, forums go for post count, 4chan had gets. They were never in the spirit of anything, but at least they were sometimes entertaining. Now people just want GETs for the same reason forumers want 10,000 posts or whatever.

I can't think of any forums where the posts themselves are assigned a post number, care to enlighten me?

>> No.9812382,2 [INTERNAL]

>>9812382,1
There are usually post numbers that start from 1 in every thread.

It's usually done so you can link someone to a certain post instead of posting the page of the thread.

>> No.9812382,3 [INTERNAL]

>>9812382,1
A lot of forums have textboard-style numbering, i.e. they start from 1 for each thread/topic. If you go to Fuwanovel's forums, for instance, you'll see there's a little "#1", #2", etc. by each post, and you can click on it to get a fragment link.
In most forums, they simply aren't prominent enough. If you hover over the "Quote" links on somewhere like Something Awful or Wrong Planet, you will see they have unique post numbers, but they're rarely displayed and nestled in the HTML somewhere.

It's for the best, really. People probably would care, especially on forums that have a "forum game" culture. And people would come up with more and more reasons for their post number to matter. 4-ch has 2 GET, world4ch has JACKSON 5 GET, 4chan has doubles...it's eventually going to reach the point where we have "unremarkable number GETs".
