It's okay. My first eroge and the one game that actually got me into visual novels. Though I'm a bit afraid of rereading it in Japanese because it might stain my first experience. I loved Aeka's route in a way because I could connect with her bullying situation somewhat (and her ending was fucking satisfying). I guess part of it also was the "Wow I didn't know eroge actually had stories" realization since I downloaded it on a lonely Valentine's Day with a bunch of bad nukige.

It's your average level stuff, worth reading if you don't have anything important on your backlog but don't expect something mind blowing. I heard afterwards that they actually butchered the translation a bit but patched it later.

Play if you like some drama and the girls appeal to you.

Well, Umineko still ends up being a better MYSTERY novel. Not to say I hated G-Sen or anything but Umineko actually had foreshadowing / let you think on your own while G-Sen usually worked

The point of mystery is to let the player see the same "evidence" the characters see without telling them what it means right away. G-Sen witheld plenty of information and only brought it up when it was convenient for the story. The seperate story arcs also ended up disregarding / contradicting (Maou's identity) each other which was a pretty shitty decission and felt like a copout to make Haru's route work.

It's debateable which is better overall, but the detective part was thoroughly shit in G-Sen. And quite bad pacing too.

I've been on a visual novel sabbath for the last year or so, but while cleaning up shit on my hard drive, I stumbled upon G-Senjou no Maou already patched and ready to go (seriously, how did I forget that I installed and patched it, what the hell me).

So I marathoned through Tsubaki's route today and yesterday. I mainly picked her because I wanted to see the juxtaposition of naive, nice girl and the asshole protagonist. But it was surprisingly nice; I'd had forgotten how nice it is to chill out and read a vn.

From the facial expressions and the ads, they are doing them all, at least Komari and Kud were confirmed. Not that Riki actually needed to romance the girls, aside from Mio, which kinda needs it, otherwise you get another Kotomi route animated.

Not him, but I agree with the idea that Amane's route should be done last.
It's the one route that features the most stuff that doesn't have any proper resolution, and hence works as a good lead-in for Meikyuu. Makina's and Yumiko's are kinda like that too, but none more so than Amane's.
Unfortuantely, I finished Makina's and Amane's routes off first, and spent the rest of Kajitsu getting really frustrated at how nothing was happening. And this was back when nobody had any idea it was a trilogy, so yeah things were pretty bad.

But if you have bad record of finishing then Amanes and Makinas routes are the two most essential routes with the most plot relevance so you can do them and not lose much if you shift to meikyuu after them if you don't bother in finishing the other routes. Also Amane is the best heroine

Well, it's the order they're presented in, but I can see where you're coming from. Everything after Makina and Amane's routes really isn't up to par in the action or drama department and ends up feeling like a huge letdown. Not "bad" but the first two routes raised the expectations really high.

I read them in the order they're presented and I thought it was a-okay that way. Then again I'm probably the only one who didn't like Makina's route too much. And Amane's route was so long stretched that Michiru and Sachi were really refreshing. And well both characters are really awesome anyway.
Yumiko's route was the only one I really didn't like, but that's probably because I already didn't like the character a whole lot. (she was alright as a joke character in the other routes, though)

Finished the first part of Sinclient and a bit into the second, yeah Mina is a bad guy and responsible for a lot of shit in the first part, I guess it was pretty obvious, looks like the true heroine is Shizuku.

It basically read and develop like your standard political thriller, I've been calling it Bourne jokingly but it's really similar.
Heck you even have the Freemason involved, it's pretty much the standard of the standard for this type of novel.

Not saying this is bad though, while these types of stories are dim of a dozens as novel it feels kind of fresh as a VN.
Anyways it's nothing great but it's not bad

I don't think it's a very good starter or "gateway" VN.
Too much needless banter between actual plot, worsened by the fact that the skip function doesn't work properly with some of the repeated text. You might end up getting bored halfway through. And how much you like it depends almost entirely on the protagonist and if he manages to rub you the right way. He's very... polarizing.

I personally liked Saihate no IMA much more, though it feels like Romeo just replaced long winded chit chat with long winded infodump. I couldn't call any of his works "entertaining to read", but something you start appreciating after putting them down and thinking them out for a bit (especially the case with Saihate no IMA).

You should probably start with something lighter and shorter.

Do you guys keep EVERYTHING you download? What's the point if you know the game either sucks or just isn't for you and you'll never touch it again? I use a two tier system for deciding what to keep: fap and story. Eroge with good story are so few and far between that it's pretty easy to pick out (Sharin, Muvluv, Baldr Sky, etc.) Fap is basically have I successfully came to at least 5 h-scenes or was the quality of the fap mind-boggingly awesome? Artwork is irrelevent since you can always download a hcg rip. It works out pretty well and I've had to re-download a game maybe once or twice.

Finished Ai's route in Tsujidou-san and I liked this a lot. It's always nice when a route is about the relationship of a couple instead of a "and that's how they got together" story. So you have a really goddamn long route (this seems like a rather massive game if the other 2 routes are of similar length) with a shitload of icha-rabu, sex, break up and make up and all that stuff.
The protag kind of sucks though. I guess he needs to be a Care Bear to create a contrast with the yankee girls but he's seriously annoying.

The Yoiko/Ryoko sex scene can't be avoided and it's only available in the tanned Maki route.
There are hints regarding you know what in the Renna route and in one scene Yoiko almost blows her cover in a very comedic way.
That's the one group scene in the entire game, I wish Hiroshi had the balls to go for Azusa she's a manipulative NTR-ing would be slut, obsessive wacko and a traitor, but damn she reminds me of the 'slut' in Majikoi and her H-scene was among my favourites.

Take a break. I'm using this time to finish up Makina route in Grisaia and the last two chapters of Asairo.

I don't think I will touch this again until I finish at least a few other games sitting around in my hard drive.

After a whole day of refreshing for a torrent and then 23 hours of waiting for the download to finish while staying awake the whole time, I too can start enjoying Root Double now albeit with 2 days' sleep deprivation.
Planning to start with "After" since it's (strangely) the first selection the game offers.

Just finished Kasumi's route in Amantes Amentes, and well I'm a disappointed. I can see that they were trying to make this a sort of introductory route, and most of the fights were pretty good. But I did not like the latter part of the final chapter, especially the ending which felt a bit half-arsed and inconclusive.
I suppose it was because they didn't even introduce a good chunk of the remaining cast.

I do expect the other routes to be better, but how are the endings?

Kasumi's route is basically a bad end, including let's kill all the vast for shits and giggles part. Endings for MArie/Rea routes are a lot more conclusive, being mainer heroines and all. Kei's is a bit shafted, but plot goes a lot longer than Kasumi's so it feels a lot more complete anyway.

I really didn't think this game could get any more awesome than Marie's route, but this? And then there's a continuing two chapters beyond it?

Fuck I'm excited. I don't think I've been so thrilled to play a game since the final Hikaru v Kageaki fight in Muramasa.
