978727 No.978727 [Reply] [Original]

What are figurines usually made of? I want to make my own.

>> No.978734

People use sculpty or a similar product for the initial model.

>> No.978774

sculpting clay is used to make the initial model. then you make a plaster cast of that. and from there you can make a resin or pvc positive if i recal properly

>> No.978779

>>978734
really they use sculpey?
I'm also vaguely interested in attempting a simple fig, but my sculpey is probably about 10 years old.

>> No.978792

Making a cast that will work properly is the hardest part.

>> No.978800

Hardened semen.

>> No.978812

..... computers.... most resin models are made on the computer first... wtf is this 15 years ago?

>> No.978825

there is a way to make clay out of flour, I think

you put it in the oven afterwards, and it becomes hard

>> No.978827

Most figures are mix of ABS and PVC--ABS for parts that bear a lot of weight, and PVC for parts that don't.

I just did this. mixed salt with flour and made a yukkuri. it's in the oven now. gonna paint it afterwards.

>> No.979159

>>979148
I can never get the mix right for that; it always ends up really mushy and difficult to shape.
And if you happen to get any in your hair, don't ever let it dry there.

No. When will you learn to stop trying?

worry not, I've stopped now. The ancient fimo has eaten a hole in the skin of my thumb. Divine retribution?

I used one cup of flour, one cup of boiling water, and 1/2 cup of salt. it turned out really nice and it was easy to shape it for me...
