Why can't Japanese people use youtube like everyone else?

Japanese websites are designed to accommodate:
a) Mobile phones, some of which are old (and thus have old standards);
b) Old computers, e.g. Windows ME which was only phased out in Japan recently.

b) is also why you still see games today being made with 800x600 or 1024x768 resolution. The idea that the Japanese are technologically "ahead" is a Western myth, especially since they're relying on Western software and hardware in the first place.

Silicon and other materials are imported to Japan, Japan makes the parts, the parts are shipped to Mexico or China to be assembled, then to wherever to be sold.

Japan's entire economy basically relies on making shit they import better, then shipping it back out.

>> No.9763649

The Japanese are incredibly computer illiterate.
Seriously.

And this applies to programming and the internet as well.
I'm honestly amazed by some of the old shit they still use. Like many still use Windows Me and shit.
It's funny how everyone thinks Japan is some sort of a technological paradise while they are in reality complete retards with it. Many think they have amazing phone service and such, but that's honestly just because it's a small and thin country as opposed to huge countries like the US. Maybe it's a sign that ease of access with technology will only lead to stagnation and laziness with new things.

Wanna hear something funny? Utawarerumono has no speed limiter (at least to my knowledge). This means that if your computer is too powerful, the battle scenes become ridiculously fast and it's not possible to do combos anymore, essentially cripling to whole gameplay. I ended up creating a small program using c++, which would put my cpu into sleep for a few milliseconds at a time to be able to play the game.

These were common problems in ms-dos times...
When was utawarerumono released? IN 2002!

Japan also hates opensource by the way.

Not directly related, but worthwhile to mention that _all_ of the jap gamers used to hate game mods and that only changed only about 4 years ago when pc gaming became more widespread in japan. Some of them still hate game mods to this day.

You can call me weird, but I almost never use mods unless it's like extra units for an RTS or something. It feels weird, not as weird as cheating but like it defeats the point of the game. Then again, I don't play action adventure/RPGs on the PC, so mods would probably be limited to skins, levels, maps, units, and the like for me.

Still I don't mod MMORPGs even beyond interface skins.

It's kinda hard to get behind devs that don't like mods though. Somehow it's equally hard to get behind modders that basically want to use it as an engine like it's RPG maker or something.

Think of all the copyright issues on youtube, nicovideo is way more cooler with uploading videos.
