Do you try to play the Japanese version of any English game or watch/read the Japanese version of any other entertainment?

That way you can practice your language studies while doing everything.

I don't use non-japanese entertainment.

Now you reminded me of Osana Reimu.

I tried to play the original jp-version of earthbound but I'm awful at vocabulary so I gave up.

Yes.

The problem that I have with trying to play normal games in Japanese is that they talk too fast.

If I'm playing an older RPG or a visual novel then I have time to read and understand what is being said because the dialog only advances when I tell it to, but other games are too fast. Even with subtitles it's too much for me. The subtitles are flying by, I'm still trying to read it and another line of text has already replaced it.

How long does it normally take for someone to get to the point that they can read text at a reasonable speed?

Yeah, what a shitty fanfic. To show that Reimu's mother was such an awful mother just to flatter Rumia was incredibly irritating.

Vader's voice really works, in an anime sort of way.

I thought I was the only one. I also hate how some words seem to blend together. Can't understand shit, captain.

Tried the Japanese version of Baldur's Gate 2. The translation is ridiculously bad.

You'll never increase your reading comprehension speed if you stay in your comfort zone.

Here's some words of wisdom that were passed down to me by my dear uncle Ronald:
>"Getting better at things is like anal sex, boy. You gotta bite down and tolerate some pain before you're gonna be able to feel some happy."

Growth only comes from challenge and adversity. If you stick something up your ass, but you stop pushing as soon as it feels bad then you're never going to get any where. For the anus to expand and be able to adapt to the entry of larger objects you first have to go through a little challenge and pain.

This is true with Japanese or any skill. You have to constantly challenge yourself and fail in your attempts to get better. Maybe you only understood one word, but the next time you might understand two words. You will never increase your speed if you only play the games that will accommodate your slow reading ability.

Why do japanese people always say english names so awkwardly?

I don't mean the mispronunciations, you can confidently and quickly say mispronounced names. It's more like the flow of his words breaks apart when he has to say Luke's name. It has that disjointed quality to it that voice soundboards have when you try to splice together words. There's these unnatural pauses before and after saying english names.

Japanese names are written in Hiragana or Kanji, which flows much better than Katakana. Consider: ざょおしゅうあ or さあみい to ジョーシューア and サーミー. The ー throws them off.

I beat Genius of Sappheiros back when it was in version 1.0.6, in all japaneese, and with the last boss battle bugged so that you can't switch teams.

I'm just too lazy to jump into kanjis seriously. I should get some motivation. Please, motivate me.
