An incredibly in-depth Touhou RPG.
Previous thread: >>9648724

The translation for the Weekend version has been released.
Prepatched game can be found here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?a8c1by6btaid7
Make sure to extract in Japanese locale or alternatively if you're having trouble running the game, try removing moonrunes from the folder names.

Weekend version introduces a rebalancing of learning and drop rates, most "1% or less" rates are now 10-15%. In addition most synthesis recipes now require slightly less materials and the Kusanagi sword requiring 25 less iron. You can actually build stuff pretty often now.

There's also a minimap, hit Select (Default D on keyboard) to toggle transparency!

You can also turn on easy mode at any time for non-boss battles where the damage is halved for you and you gain minor offensive bonuses. (Such as increased chance to land status effects)

The game also happens to run at 1/4th of the processing power it used to demand. Save games are compatible with 2.07 and up, but a save game converter should be able to help you out.

Have you had some trouble fighting a boss? Trying to figure out how a character works? Fighting 3+ mind flayers? Mokou keeps standing up when it matters? Discuss it here in this thread!

>> No.9688655

>no consequence for death

Thank fucking God. One of the reasons I stopped playing was that copying save files over and over so often was annoying as hell. Certain monster encounters fuck all of your shit up instantly while disabling your ability to run away, so you had to regularly stop whatever you were doing in the dungeon to go outside and save to prevent your items from being lost. THEN you had to copy that save file because if you died later and lost items, there'd be no other way to get them back other than going back to the old save file since the game would auto-save the fact that items were lost forever.

Also, how does the game go after Chireiden? The monsters in that place were fucking brutal and made the game feel kind of like a chore. I managed to get into that dungeony-looking place in the basement beneath Chireiden before I just ended up not playing the game ever again.

Downloading now. Thanks for having a pre-patched version.

But honestly, GoS and DoD don't require any skill whatsoever, just patience. That alone makes them literally, piss easy compared to any games that require actual skill. But comparing difficulty between different genres isn't a good way to go about doing things. Anyway, just put some more time into GoS. Read the manual and use the wiki for help. Once you get enough material to upgrade weapons and craft other things, everything picks up pace.

>Aquatics, fish and the like, are usually weak to lightning or fire, rarely both.
>Dragons and Foreign gods are damn resistant to everything. (With Angels being weak to dark and vice versa with Demons)

I just got Satori. What kind of role does she fill? I've never really been good at handling enemy-move-copiers in RPGs; I never know what to do with them.

At the moment, I'm using that Hakurei formation with Marisa and Sanae in the back, Reimu and Sakuya in front, and Mokou in the middle, and Aya as commander (but just so I could get the first move on those fucking birds that would cancel all your magic). I like everyone in my group, as they all have a useful role: Mokou for physical damage and tanking, Marisa for magic damage, Sanae for healing and support, Reimu for everything except moving quickly (holy fuck she is so Goddamn slow), and Sakuya for hitting like a Goddamn truck. I have no idea who I'd swap out for Satori.

>> No.9698062

>>9698036
Swap as the need arises. Don't stick to one party.

Satori is by far the most versatile character in the game, but when you first get her, there's not much good stuff to learn. The basic elemental spells from fairy maid mages in SDM, mind blast from mind flayers, and energy drain from zombie fairies are all very good...but not enough to warrant using her yet.
Put her in the commander slot and let her grow. Once she gets 25 power, dump it all in her learning tree and get back to us.

>> No.9698066

>>9698036
She's basically a hybrid of Blue Mage and area status inflicter, which means you'll have to spend some time fighting enemies and running from them in order to learn new skills. The most useful things she can learn, in my opinion, are her magic spells, which can get just as strong as or even stronger as Marisa's with the right investment, and she's even more versatile than Patchouli because she can use (cheap) spells of every element without needing a bomb. In short, she can be a good character if you invest time on her.

Also, I suggest you don't stick to only one party, because at certain points in the game (stages 9 and 18, to be precise), you WILL need to split your party. Well, you could actually only use one team to clear one side, then switch over and use the same time for the other side(s), but where's the fun in that? If you're wondering how you should level up those level 1 character, just use a formation that makes them less likely to be hit, or stick them in the commander slot.

In raw GoS, you'd get 10 character-specific crafting items for each character throughout the main game. Monsters could drop them, but at INCREDIBLY low rates. Like .001% or something. Iron and stuff could be farmed, especially with the drop rate patch, but that 10-count still limited your crafting.

If you still have a copy of Lingering Summer Heat, you can use the in-dungeon save trick.

This doesn't work (directly) in Weekend, but if you set this up in Lingering Summer Heat, you can copy the file over to Weekend and use easy mode if you want.

Go into the dungeon and find an enemy - before you start the battle, open your menu and close it so the game creates a backup file.

Then run into the enemy - if it's the one you want, open your save folder and find the file named ここはバックアップフォルダです. Rename this file to a normal save file in an empty slot (e.g., TSD040, TSD057, whatever). When you load this save file, so long as you don't open your menu, you will appear in the middle of the dungeon exactly where you created the backup, and the next enemy you fight will be the same one every time. You can use this to get equipment much faster because you don't have to look for the enemy all over again.

If the enemy you ran into when you created the file isn't the one you were looking for, just reset and try again (by opening the menu to create the backup file, then renaming and replacing it when you find what you're looking for).

Well, I've decided to give up on Satori, as I'm just not seeing any results from spending time on her, at least at this stage.

I'm glad that the 'party split' thing allows you to just do one side, swap your parties around so you can use the exact same people, then do the other side. I can see the appeal of leveling everyone up and all that, but really, Mokou, Reimu, Marisa, Sanae, and Youmu in Hakurei Formation simply does everything I want. I've tried swapping out people, and it just weakens everything because none of the characters fulfill the roles better than the characters I'm already using. I mean, sure, Alice outdoes Mokou as a tank, but Mokou is doing that job well enough and does a shit-ton of damage too.

I tried dividing up my good people with my lower-level people, and it seems that the enemies in this part are easier to account for the fact that you're using weaker members, but it's not just the weakness that bothers me. My party won't run the way I want it to without the right people. It feels like Alice is a complete waste of space unless there's a shit ton of incoming damage that you're trying to mitigate a certain way. Satori doesn't do much damage, and she doesn't so anything else either. Reimu has heals, but neither she nor anyone else compares to Sanae (except maybe Satori if that Area Heal thing enemies sometimes use can be copied), so you can't really have a party without her. This whole 'party split' thing just won't work for me, even if it makes whatever route I'm doing a little easy.

Seems pretty straightforward to me.
I sent Sanae to the left with Youmu, Sakuya, Satori, and Aya, and I sent Mokou to the right with Nitori, Patchouli, Hijiri, and Marisa. My Alice and Reimu are underleveled, so I left them in the Commander spots.

I didn't bother using Satori until stage 13. Before then (In my experience) you just have an extremely fragile caster with low MP. Now, with the help of some equipment, I have her doing as much damage as Marisa with more elemental variety and healing better than Reimu

The Heart of Eientei is so much fun. The music and atmosphere are fucking great and the enemies are tough, but not too much so. I haven't lost yet, though I did have to run away with a sliver of health at one point because I didn't know that the Dragon Maids had a 'rape everything' skill.

Also, what the hell, someone mentioned Stage 21? This is a long-ass fan game. And there's an expansion on top of that? Good lord.

Right after you recruit satori, her biggest asset is poison damage. Poison arts + IND accessories + +IND armor + green eyes deals out massive damage. A properly built satori can outdamage every single other 2hu at this point.

When giving Satori elemental spells, make sure they're actually magic attacks. Fire breath for example runs off the attack stat, not mag.

The generic elemental spells are pretty bland. Stick to mind blast/poison arts/petro breath until you have access to better spells such as acid storm, tornado, and demon collider.

For ten of Byakuren's and six of Satori's mp, you can cause ALL of the enemies to take over five hundred damage per turn for quite a few turns.
Only way I can possibly think of that could beat that is having all of your enemies lined up and subject to Sakuya's slayer type so she can use Ultimate Division.
But she can only hit three at a time with it, and after two turns of using it you've already spent more mp than Satori and Byakuren combined.

I think I like the idea of Satori as a mimic more than a blue mage. Her whole thing is that she can use any attack without having to go through the pain of having seen, felt, or developed it, so long as she can read the mind of someone who has.
What I envision for her is a sort of cross between the Mimic and Gao from FFVI. Her primary ability (Called Recollection, obviously) has you choose one of your previously defeated bosses, and she gets a specially tailored set of abilities based on who you choose and what level she is. The movelist would be similar to what that boss had, but maybe powered down just a bit. She doesn't even have to have been in the fight with that boss, because she can "read" all about it using your other party members.
She could also have a more immediate ability when not in Recollection mode that has her read the target's mind and use the same move that affected them most recently, whether it's an attack or a buff.

Patchy's books aren't worth it compared to all the awesome staves you get, nor are most of Byakuren's scrolls and Satori's eyes. Aya shouldn't be used for damage, so the only fan she needs is the evasion one. At least with Weekend you can craft much more frequently, because pretty much everything that used to require 3 character materials now only need 2 of them. Since you get 10 of those for every character just by opening chests and armors got cheaper as well (the second tier ones now only need one character-specific material), you could make 4 or 5 weapons through the whole game depending on if you want an armor or not, which is pretty much everything before the expansion (except for Nitori and Satori, whose weapons didn't get new recipes for whatever reason). And then there's the higher rate for those items to drop from monsters too.

I think I actually preferred it the old way, since it motivated you to plan ahead before deciding if making something is worth it or not.

By the way,

Basically, if you end a battle, all creatures on the field momentarily freeze and don't have collision. IF you happen to walk into the quest field monster, the game sets your next encounter to be the relevant boss, and you automatically succeed the quest as the field monsters are in a post-battle state.
