Well it's a whole new graphics engine so the graphics themselves look fairly different. The main thing is that the performance problems are gone. Also they remade all the maps so they're not terrible anymore.

A lot different considering their using the luminous engine for 2.0.

Compared to the original game though, it's a side grade if anything, FFXIV is still boasts the best graphical fidelity of any MMO.

For comparison.
-ARR has lower overall texture quality, you have to zoom in a bit to actually notice though. All though they said at gamescom there is still roughly 30% more optimization they plan to do for higher specs.
-Better particle effects
-Dynamic lighting
-Better optimization for lower end PCs (This change obviously arises from the fact that the game is slated for launch on the PS3. They showed the game running on an i5 laptop and it was actually pretty impressive. My own work laptop is similar specs and when I run RIFT on it, it doesn't look nearly as nice, granted I can't tell exactly what FPS they were getting on the laptop.

I think there'll a good amount of content, if you consider it as a new MMO. There'll be a new storyline luckily. When they've released ARR they'll start working on an expansion that'll be like Zilart was for XI hopefully. It'd be nice if they added a cute loli character like Prishe one day.

I plan to roleplay and really get immersed this time. That was too hard with the laggy old version.

Oh, well that's harder to say since the gameplay footage was pretty limited.

Notable changes I can think of
-UI vastly improved, from the footage, it looks up to modern MMO standards with each piece of the UI movable (not sure about scale but it's probably there). Also they removed a lot of menu navigation which is nice.
-Hard to say anything about combat but it does look more interesting since we are getting classic Job abilities and Limit breaks.
-There is jumping now (this is actually a really big deal)

To be honest though most of the changes that turned the wreck at launch into a playable MMO have already happened. 2.0 looks like it's just going to cement those changes in, while pretty much revamping everything else that still needs work.

Another great thing is that Uematsu is gone and they're redoing the soundtrack for ARR with Naoshi Mizuta (the guy who did the Zi'tah and lots of other expansion soundtracks in XI) doing a lot of the new tracks. Normally his music is good, but for FFXIV it was terrible (especially those rock style battle themes and ill-fitting area music).
