I love how intentionally misleading this article is. If the US grew by 1.5 and Japan by 1, that means that the US grew 50% more, that's not a small amount.

That's what AKB48 and the sudden surge of female (and male) idols, plus the Korean invasion does.

But if I had to say, it specially is the fact that fans are INCREDIBLY stupid and demonstrate support by buying a shit ton of copies from their singles and albums. We, the rest of the world, are less crazy or maybe just more prudent with money and have moved on to downloading music.
