So considering this is /jp/ I'm assuming at least a few of you might have some grasp on the Japanese language. I want to learn some Japanese. Maybe not be fluent in it but at least enough. How can I go about doing this? I can't really take any actual classes for it though. I've heard some people start off by memorizing the characters of the alphabet. I've also heard people like to listen to music of the language they're trying to learn. Any other things? Maybe shit I can read online, etc. Pic not really related, just what I'm listening to at the moment.

Also just a note, but I'm not really doing this because I'm some weaboo "HURR WHY WAS I NOT BORN IN GLORIOUS NIPPON?!", just a nice interest in Japan. Also, if I'm not mistaken, there's 2 different Japanese alphabets, Hiragana and katakana, as well as Kanji. Do these both sound the same when spoken just different ways of spelling? And is learning Kanji really even necessary?

Your retarded questions show that you didn't even try to use google to get a basic understanding on what you're even trying to do.
I'm so not gonna help you.

But in all seriousness, after I do some more extensive research on Japan and its language, what are some good starting points for this?

Well might as well just search up tips instead never expected too much help from 4chan anyway. Just a quick question though, how many people here actually know Japanese? If you're so interested in the culture might as well try and learn the language.

If you have an iOS device, download an app called Human Japanese. It explains the most important basics in great detail and is extremely helpful and clear, and includes some useful memorisation tests. I think the full version is around £4 but I can't remember, it's been a few years since I last used it.
