It depends on the word, though. Sometimes both words are necessary control words, other times it's just one. My guess is they're using words they now know the answer to in order to boost effectiveness.

Before you dint even need to type out the second world. you could type asdfjkhafgd and it would still go in. NOW you just need to type two or three of the correct letters and it would still work.

If there's one thing I'll give Google credit for, it's that they allow a certain Hamming distance. If the control word is "regalis" or some other gibberish, it will accept "ragalif". It really dawns on you how useful this is when you use another CAPTCHA, and you have to get every letter or number exactly right.

Y'know... Before I used to type things like nigger (Lol) or just random letters on the keyvboard to get done with the fake word but now it looks like it's checking the second word for these random stuff I used to do...

Thusly, let me explain what reCaptcha is and how to make it one word easier.

reCaptcha, that is the captcha 4chan uses doubles as a digital translator for scanned literary works or any other source of otherwise text in images that computers can't usually read, but humans can... maybe. That said, not all captchas work the same way.

The way reCaptcha does this is that it gives you two words: one, as called in a couple of posts in this thread already the "control word". The word is gibberish that is placed in the captcha that the user must type -rather- correctly, that is, you can make a mistake with a letter or two. In the pic, that would be the word on the right, 'cdfee' or something. It would probably still accept 'coffee' either way. -cont-

A popular misconception that it's always the first word (left) is the control word. This is wrong. The captcha I have in typing this second part features the control on the left, but note that on my previous post, the control word is on the right (second word). The trick is, simply put - find the gibberish word. It is the control word. It will always be stylized and never have punctuation. Going back to the essence of recaptcha, you can do this backwards. Find the word you think they would want to be translated. In my pic, the first word is gibberish and the second says hotel. Obviously, they'd want ( "a fro ) to be translated. But I say no. Fuck them, as I type in ( a asedWie ) and it would be posted normally.

What is confusing people is that you can't always get away with only typing one word any more. Sometimes you can, sometimes you need to type both properly.

My guess is that Google has built up a database of scanned words it *knows* are correct, and requires them to be filled in about 50% of the time. That way it can be sure a user is legitimately entering words, and it'll trip up robots even if they crack the gibberish word.
