I had a neighbor that was an elderly Japanese woman. I talked to her and she read my fortune on my palm.
Her husband was in the airforce, and that's how they met. She just smelled like old lady to me though, but I took every chance to talk with a real genuine Nippon person, to see what she could teach a baka gaijin like me.

From my experience, I'd say you'd need to meet a real Japanese person, but in Japan. In their natural habitat.
That's my dream, one day I will have Japanese friends, and they'll accept me and say that I have a Japanese soul.
