I've been cutting down on drinking a lot and I've only used drugs twice this year. The only pack of cigarettes I've gone through is the one I bought a few days after my birthday, "just because..." I used drugs more frequently in the past, but they ended up costing too much... these days, I just don't bother with it. Being sober is nice in itself.

I suffer from derealization, more frequently when I'm under stress. I think that my dissociative tendencies have developed as a form of defense against anxiety, but I really have no idea. Things start glowing and getting fuzzy and I feel like I'm zooming away from reality... everything feels foggy and distant. If it gets worse, I'll just get lost in things which I consider to be very vivid daydreams. Sometimes images or thoughts will flash into my mind. It's been really disturbing.

Are you sure it's derealisation? You should see a psychiatrist. A lot of people mistake feeling "dreamy" for derealisation, but it is often associated with anxiety, so you should seek help.

And you really shouldn't self-harm. I saw those IRC logs. It's just a dumb thing to do. Even people well into their fifties who have been doing it for decades will tell you that.
