So, what games to /jp/ have guilds in? I've seen a lot of "oh hey come play this game with me and join the /jp/ guild!" threads, and it seems like some people always do it.

Have these guilds all died over time, or do they continue to exist in most of the mmos? As a side question, is there a /jp/ guild in Latale? Its boring playing alone.

Thinly veiled "Play latale with me guys, I'm so lonely!

JP related because NEET escapism.

>> No.9613400

>>9613330
It has a cash shop, but its all fashion stuff, and can be bought with in-game currency as well. Hosted by OGplanet. They also have a "do surveys for points" system

Think maplestory, with better character design, more clutch controls, Better classes, Harder bosses more unique quests, nice story, better graphics, The list goes on.

Oh, and it doesn't feel like a "maplestory-esque" game, either. You don't feel like a stupid chibi. You feel full-sized.

I plan on playing Raiderz once it comes into open beta. (I played it in closed, but don't want to have to re-do everything in open)

I started playing latale again out of sheer desperation for a good MMO to play, fact of the matter is 90% if not more are complete shit. Latale barely makes it above the shit mark.

I've grown tired of Mabinogi, as I've become extremely powerful, and nobody wants to do things with me, plus my server is dying. Way to pick at sore spots. I'd be playing that if it wasn't on the way out.

>I assume all /jp/ guilds end up dead, then?

They are all short-lived except for two of the online games. That's because the comraderie of being from /jp/ is far too small to suppress the arrogant solo "me first, me only" attitudes of the /jp/ type gamers. Because of that, a guild full of loners is considerably weaker in guild-vs-guild fights than a guild full of comparatively weaker people that are willing to cooperate and support each other. The other reason is that almost all F2P games are crippleware if you don't pay.

Ragnarok Online has the longest active /jp/ guild in terms of contiguous play time on the official server. That may be due to RO being genuinely F2P (free to play) because despite having a cash shop, it is not pay to win nor does refusing to pay cause the game to be crippled. RO allows you to max level, wear all gears, travel everywhere, do events, use instances, quest, etc, without paying. Almost all other F2P games with cash shops are crippleware if you don't pay. So, right off the bat, those games MUST have short-lived /jp/ guilds since the members are unwilling to pay and thus become subject to the cripple features or level/skill/travel/gear caps that occur when not paying.

The guild I was in won quite a bit, but I never payed much attention to our ranking. All I cared about was beating the other team, regardless of rank. Being an elementalist and stunning the whole enemy team with meteors, because they got too close, only to be shredded by my team...Priceless. That won us so many battles.

I always got pissed off by hunters, though. Shooting you once, half your health is gone, and like 20 different numbers of poisons and enchantments and whatnot come up. I never got how they did that.

Yeah, I don't know about that, either.

Its kind of a weird thing. On one hand, there was a lot of clutch game-play with the monk, and giving healing to a specific role made it feel more structured.

On the other, a good monk could save their target from pretty much anything, and a great monk could easily lead your team to victory, or stem an otherwise good push by the enemy team. This caused a lot of stagnation, overall. Matches lasting a really long time just due to the monks making it so nobody ever dies. They tried to remedy that ,but I feel went about it all the wrong way.

So, who else is autistic and is obsessed with leveling his character ?
Finding new and more efficient grinding method is such a joy.

Being the fastest to reach the top, or having the best xp/effort or even xp/(effort*time) ratio makes me feel superior.

Also when you can't reroll, and where how you build your character is really important, it gets even more thrilling. That's one of the qualities of RPGs like baldur's gate, morrowind and NWN.

Ever noticed how MMO where it's a painful and dull experience to grind always offer the possibility to reroll ? It's as if they know their game is shit. Of corse you add a fee to it, it extends the life of the MMO.

Ultima online, dark eden, dragon raja, Risk your life, and more recently WoT were fun experience.

Because not only the endgame matters, but also the path.
Pretty much like a VN or any form of storytelling, not only how it ends matter, but how you get there.

Same here. The average /jp/ person is bad at MMORPG because they will not play ANY game for more than XX number of hours before moving on. MMO and especially MMORPG require people to like their chars and stick with them. You can't expect the average /jp/ to stick with a game when they can't even stick with the same waifu longer than a few months. Makes you wonder about real-life usa unfaithful marriage stats of 30% (varies by city and environment of course) and how it contributes to the +50% divorce rate.

An RPG type game requires the player to be able to keep going once the char reaches a certain level of effectiveness. That's because chars continue to interact with the world and its economy as well as working with newer less powerful chars. All the other players who understand mmorpg have already gone on, played, and joined other guilds. So, any new /jp/ guild ends up with "leftover" /jp/ players who are either socially unacceptable for guilding or who are totally new to mmorpg. It's those new players that have managed to keep /jp/ guilds existing more than 2 months in some games.

But real guilds have chars that work together. Some game guilds have exceptional comeraderie and almost never work with players outside their own guild. Nor do they need to since their members play frequently enough and are WILLING to cooperate. A selfish neet or hikomori loner is not what /jp/ guilds need and having such types of members doesn't make a guild. It destroys it after a month or two as the capable members quit and join a "real" guild.

It's useless to name one BECAUSE you obviously have the mindset that doesn't accept any MMO as being good. Therefore, you would simply automatically say "that mmo is no good" without even giving specific reasons.

Rather than say good or bad, why don't you name a mmorpg where most /jp/'ers don't hit max level in a day or two? Since that is your angle on mmo, you should be able to name some. And which mmo are you talking about that most everyone hits max level in a day or two? Name them. Or do you just want to sound cool by implying you get to max level in a day or two for most mmo?

It's been proven since 2005 or so when this "let's have a 4chan guild in this game" posts started appearing. People play and then quit after a double-digit number of hours. There are exceptions, but those /jp/ players who will stick with a 4chan mmo guild for more than xx hours are few.

This is not to say that /jp/ readers can't play mmo. It is to say that those /jp/ readers don't stick with a /jp/ guild. Being a successful guild requires good cooperative members that are not cancerous or demogues stirring up trouble and animosity between members.

Chances are that if a player was good at the mmorpg, he or she would already be in a non-/jp/ guild already. What that also means is that the /jp/ guilds get the "leftover" players that the normal guilds do not want. And yes, there are plenty of good guilds out there that reject players for being assholes to other guildies. That is the right thing to do if the guild is serious about its objectives.

What do you mean "no content"? There is stuff in those games and things to do as well as places to explore and quests to do. So your definition of "content" doesn't include those things.

You also didn't list the one major mmorpg Ragnarok Online that is also commercially successful since it first started. It is also F2P and has content, an active in-game economy, and plenty of events and even player-made events on occasion. Although there are no notable player events on the scale of players disrupting the honorary funeral (warcraft not f2p) or the killing of lord british (founder of the online mmorpg genre).

Killing monsters is content. And there are lots of different monsters to kill. You also don't kill things the same exact way either, but have to make different considerations for terrain, weapon choices, and partying with other players.

It seems that content to you therefore doesn't include anything you have to repeat. But you cannot simply kill one monster once and become level 99. That is absurd. You must be able to repeat some tasks such as monster killing.

Your problem is that you require immediate quick rewards or else you call it repetitive. That attitude lumps you into the group of casual players able to only play a game for a short while before moving on.

Only nerdlords care about visuals when playing game.
Mind over matter.

Honestly, most anime themed game have horrid gameplay and are devoid of any content.
They're just glorified chatrooms for people to roleplay in.

Of course, there are exceptions, but I doubt you've heard of dragon raja or risk your life.
Besides, those two are malaysian MMO, if I recall.

I'm going to play GW2 for at least two years on EU server.
I'd create a steam group, but I don't use steam, and I probably would end up alone in it.

I seriously doubt that either the ``tru neet shit on da floor xD'' clique or the actual social inepts actually plays mmo. That leaves very few /jp/ers to play with, and to those, remove those who can't run said game and those who don't like it.

Of course, there's always a good lot of people bandwagoning when /jp/ decides to go on a game, but those tend to play 5+ games at the same time, and don't last more than a week.

I doubt there's more than 5 person on /jp/ who made it past tier 8 on WoT. Which doesn't even take a month to reach without premium.

You can also make your own content in most mmorpg. For example, you might go exploring a map and looking for random people to play with or help. Of course, if you are antisocial or selfish loner, then those approaches to find content within the game are closed to you. But mmorpg are social games.

I've seen one player in the official Ragnarok Online F2P server create his own merchant empire content. He made a fleet of merchants and had them selling even in out of the way places. He fine-tuned his locations, moving and keeping track of statistics, and of course, had different wares for sale. As an inducement to his shop, he even gave out free defense strong points where your char could rest in safety since one of his merchant alchemists had a homunculus that would defend the zone against monsters. If you were a newbie, you could panic run into the shop zone and the homun would strip off the monsters following you, thus you remained alive.

Another player in RO F2P ran a priest as if it were one of those tabletop RPG chars. Thus, its personality was supposedly consistently not that of the player. There are probably any number of players who actually RPG their chars instead of having the chars act with the players' own personalities. There's plenty of ways to play and generate your own content if you are an imaginative player or enjoy having a flexible environment.

Content is not simply stuff you acquire. And you shouldn't limit your definition of content to that.

Plenty of people kept on playing RO. It's that they left the 4chan guilds to join other guilds. The 4chan guilds were unable to do anything in the War of Emperium as other guilds or even just a few of the other player parties doing independent PVP in the warzone would trash the 4channers. So it didn't take much to get the 4channers discouraged so they left the official server and went to a high-rate server where they could become high level fast and acquire rare gears and wealth super fast.

You must have missed all the games that people played for months.

Of course not everyone stays, you'd have to be literally retarded to think that the case. /jp/ers aren't special. They are exactly like every other set of players in the game; That is to say: the majority have quit or stop logging in regularly after either 1-2 months or when the content runs out.

I can't even think of one case where someone has quit the 4chan guild for another guild before the player base ran thin (ignoring people who self-destructed and got kicked/removed themselves for being insufferable). And even then, in the handful of games I've stuck around personally in beyond their lifespan, I can think of precisely two cases where someone quit and went to another guild while other people still logged in. Both cases weren't surprising in the least.

I guess the difference might be that I don't play normal MMOs like you do, such as WoW or whatever you are using as the norm. To be fair though, maybe this happened in 2005 like you said. What did you even play? I never joined anything until 2006, where I was then shocked at how cohesive the group was, given where we had come from.

But after playing WoW it seems way too boring.
You grind to hit max level in RO, for what, WoE, that's it.
No dungeons, no raids just MVP's that get camped by people who buy their gear through cash shop.

No battlegrounds, just an arena where people stand around whacking each other.
No achievements and hardly any stuff to collect like mounts, pets etc.
Headgears I guess you could collect, but that gets boring pretty fast.
Really bad questing.
No auction house just area's filled with shops.
No professions other than alchemist & blacksmith which are pretty useless really.
And no MODS, dmg meters etc.

It's 2D, but it looks better than any 3D MMORPG I've ever seen. And what's most important: my shitty PC can run it (natively on Linux even). Combat is mostly turn-based (like Final Fantasy Tactics), so I can take it easy. I got all the skills for my class in about an hour. They still need to get leveled up, of course, but it's nice to have a big repertoire of skills right at the beginning of the game.

Besides those, there are areas only accessible by WoE guilds such as the WoE2 after Renewal. But if you are a guild full of loners, it is hard to gain access. A few times, I was able to enter because another guild allowed me to temporarily join their guild and quit. It was a big deal since a lot of info goes on in guild chat and the members had to debate over letting an outsider hear it.

While RO is a simpler game to play, it also has complexity at the same time. One plus is that it is playable on a laptop with smooth framerate. Renewal brought in another world beyond the rift and none of those places have been mentioned, so perhaps people here were not able to work on the yggdrasil dungeon quest.

One of the niceties (or curses) of WoW is that the world is physically large, thus, you really can just walk around. RO decided early on, and didn't change that approach for Renewal, to have a world that you didn't waste time walking and walking and walking, hence navigation is fast. That is probably a weakness now since many people equate concentrated monsters and fast navigation to being a tiny world. If the RO world was physically larger with the monsters much more spread out as in WoW, then the game would feel "bigger".

There is a new Ragnarok 2 (3D) coming which will address that "I want a physically bigger seeming world" desire. Some of the player suggestions were also incorporated from the official RO forums such as that long one from years back which detailed locations and usage of player characters as temporary NPCs in the game. Thus, your merchant char could be one of the NPC merchants in the game selling but it would be swapped out to be an NPC type shop. That player suggestion mentioned such shops be located only in certain areas (it was pretty detailed, like 1000 words).

I would like to see other professions, but then it wouldn't be RO anymore if you had playable job classes like Moonlight Sculptor, Guild War elementalists, Kirito, or Asuna. I'll sign up for the Kirito job class since that will make my level 1 char invulnerable, I can wield swords of 2-handed weight in each hand, and I get as many "instant saves" as needed since I will never die. The company will probably not create a Kirito or Asuna class of chars even though the casuals (grind haters) would go for that class.

I don't know why MMOs even bother making sequels and don't just upgrade the game engine. If you're going to make a different game, call it a different game. You're going to split the base anyway since people don't want to give up the things they worked so hard for over years.

There's lots of content in commercially successful games that is not listed in guidebooks. While Warcraft has a lot of thick guidebooks, there are still aspects not listed in the officially published guidebooks so beloved by the casual players. And for other games such as Ragnarok Online, there aren't any english guidebooks and the player-run wiki info site barely touches on a lot of the types of dynamic content available. Most of what the wiki covers is static content (the existence of some things) or quest solutions for those players unable to solve them on their own. I've heard some brute force players say that RO doesn't have many places to go; it always shocks them when they hear there are over 1000 maps they can fight on, but they say they only know of less than 100. After a long time, when I hear people complain about any of the commercially successful games, my first thought is not about the game being bad, it's about that player being a bad spoonfeed style player!!!

Spoonfed players angry at not being spoonfed enough make demands and post complaints on various forums about lack of content.

>interesting mechanics, design, and addictive game elements can keep people interested and provide plenty of content.

I'm not the guy you're quoting but that was EXACTLY what Ragnarok had. The element-size-race dynamic, card combinations, hundreds and hundreds of weapons and armors with different slot numbers, attributes and different special effects, a FUCKING GIGANTIC map that people completely ignore because they go to the forums and read "oh it's better if you level from x to x here, them to x there and to 99 there with x and x gear". And what's funny? There were millions of different "guides" like these, people fought for pages and pages through the forums on which was the actual faster leveling route through god knows how many monsters, card combinations, elemental buffs, map routes and party setups.

And I could go on and on about that, that game had so much thought put into it, that it still brings tears to my eyes to see what happened when Gravity decided that they'd just start making overpowered cash gear to milk the fuck out of the game's remaining years.

I miss RO so fucking much.

Do cash shop items run the game in any way?

I wouldn't say RIP. 2.0 seems to be shaping up to be great.

-Much better performance from new graphics engine and server coding
-Much better UI
-Replacement of the old shitty soundtrack
-Replacement of the shitty old maps
-Replacement of the old shitty main storyline
-Changes to battle system and crafting system.

etc.

They seem to be addressing almost every complaint I had. Hopefully when the core client is finished they'll start putting out expansions like RoZ and CoP to bring the game to FFXI levels of depth.

Buying items that give you 2x EXP for an hour is not getting reduced EXP gains without paying.

Also the way you phrase it makes it sound like it is in any way hard to get EXP in Mabinogi; a game that literally gives you exp for shearing sheep, burning things, and partying hard.

http://www.2006scape.com/
It's a remake of that way Runescape was in 2006. It's currently in pre-Alpha form, which means that you have to donate in order to play. It will become free when Alpha comes out.

We have an IRC channel setup for when it comes out: #2006scape @ irc.rizon.net
This will probably be moved to the official 2006scape network and it's very lonely at the moment since the game isn't even out. There's still a lot of people interested and I'm sure it will pick up later on. I plan on making a thread about it when Alpha does come out. We are planning on making a /jp/-clan I don't like the term "guild" since nobody ever called them that in RS. in order to do events, provide assistance, and spend quality time with each other.

I've read that it's pretty bad and really not at all Wizardry-like in the end. I hope those people were wrong.

ArcheAge is maybe good too but it perhaps leaned too much on the "WoW" style gameplay in the end, I haven't checked in on it recently. They were going for a "mix of Ultima Online-like gameplay/world, Lineage 2 pvp, and WoW quests" or something.

If you camp like an idiot, sure. Or you could move like 20 feet to the side and be fine. Or you know, you could do your grinding in dungeons and shadow missions and storyline quests where that doesn't exist at all and are actually made to level you up and not just means to collect shit.

It'll be at least a year at the earliest before Korea sees any type of release for the game. Even longer if you want to play a NA or Global version.
Mabinogi with actual physics though does seem interesting.

Pick something you want to do and do it. Mabi is fairly sandbox and you'll be fine no matter what you do. You'll get enough skill points to max out all kinds of things eventually. Just don't raise Combat Mastery or Magic Mastery early on.

If you do all the basic quests you'll get a feel for the game and the world.

>>9631745
Yeah it'll come out when RO2/Otome function/Last Guardian comes out. It'll be all super realistic grimdark Vindictus and not moe and fun anyway. Also it'll probably just skip its unique system altogether and go for the generic boring WoWclone style fighting.

I picked Anvil Rock, also at random. Doesn't seem like /jp/ is interested in this game due to the severe lack of cuteness.

I kept making alts so I never got anywhere and I wouldn't mind switching out either. I wonder if /jp/ would play this game at all before the server transfers stop being free.
