I'm having a difficult time comprehending Takano's motive. She proves the existence of some disease her grandfather's colleagues thought was myth and that somehow makes her a god or whatever? I guess she would become "immortal" through memory of scientific excellence but the TIPS at the end of Tsumihoroboshi shows that she did pretty well at disappearing completely.

Also what was the point of gassing the village? I think I remember something about someone in Tokyo giving her the order to make Hinamizawa syndrome look dangerous as fuck, but I thought she knew that killing Rika wouldn't actually cause the village to go insane in 48 hours (as seen in Watanagashi and Meakashi) so did she just do it for the lulz or something?

We don't see her realize that she (or her grand-father) was wrong, and we also don't know if the village is gassed in these arcs. We only see a bit of doubt in her in Matsuribayashi when the death of Rika is faked.
Also, the fact that Keiichi is able to live without any trouble (before being killed in front of his house by Shion) show that the village isn't and probably won't be gassed in this story.

Takano wants to force her political masters to acknowledge her grandfather's theories by forcing them to act upon them by executing the entire village. She doesn't literally try to become a god nor does that actually occur.

Hifumi's theories are wrong by the way; in Watanagashi and Meakashi-hen Rika is dead for days without being discovered and the village is fine. So in those worlds Takano's theory is disproved which probably destroys Takano.

After the disaster Takano is executed. She knows too much and is legally dead. If she were found alive later on it would prove the existence of the conspiracy.
