I'll be blunt. I'm trying to translate Otorimonogatari for myself. My first step in trying to do that is to convert the scans of the book into text. It's going very slowly because I can't type japanese, so I've mostly been using an open source OCR program. It's mostly effective, but I still have to tediously proofread it because it gets a lot of characters wrong.
Can anyone get their hands on the font used for this book? If I had that, I could make the OCR program way more accurate and this would go much faster.

You can't type in Japanese, yet you're trying to translate a novel? Good luck with that.

Err, I mean I can't fluently type on a japanese keyboard, even if I set the keyboard to japanese in windows.

Perhaps he would like to not read off of bitmaps?
I know it might sound odd.

Does anybody know if somebody has already OCR'd Zaregoto?
If not, I might attempt to do so. (The english version)

There is one of volume 1. As for volume 2, there is a typed up version of the prologue, but no more to my knowledge.

You can read Japanese but you don't know how to type Japanese with latin characters and an AMERICAN keyboard? Are you kidding me?

>> No.9601558

No, I mean I don't speak, read, or type japanese. I'm transcribing the characters into a word processor so I can give (roughly) translating it a try later. (I did look up the basics on writing japanese, though)

>> No.9601560

I think he doesn't know about romaji input in the IME. He is probably talking about not being able to fluently use kana input.
Right?

It is going to be very hard to understand the Japanese if you just translate it with a dictionary. Strange particles, verb forms, slang and abbreviations, etc. will be hard to figure out.

I once tried to read Nekomonogatari and trust me, it's difficult as hell.
If you're not fluent in Japanese you're wasting your time trying to translate it.
It would be nice if someone translated all the monogatari series though.
Who's the one translating random koimonogatari's chapters?

A good step would probably be realizing that people already did what you're trying to do and that you can easily find the book in text form in PD.

it doesn't make sense that recently released light novels are tagged as 青空文庫. they aren't actually in the 青空 collection so it isn't that easy.

>> No.9604157

>>9604150
They're not usually tagged as 青空文庫, but rather 青空文庫対応txt形式
Meaning that they're in the text-format used by 青空文庫 (which has mark-up for ruby, image inclusion, etc.)

Not the guy you're replying to, but I've used first link which appears in google search when i type 読んde!!ココ torrent.
I've downloaded it without any problems. My antyvirus application says that the patch attached to it is dangerous, but I've installed application without patching and everything (even with all errors during installation) works fine so far. I guess some of the buttons showing "????" is because of the region settings?
I've heard of AppLocale, but I still haven't looked it up.
