This. Reimu's power is spiritual in nature, she channels the power of various Shinto gods.
So she would give up a lot of power by becoming a Youkai. Blessed by the Gods and with a personality that has no interest in hard work she is not going to become a Youkai magician like Patchy and Alice are and Marisa is on the way to being.
Whats going to be fun to watch is the day that Sanae finishes her training and becomes fully a God- and then Reimu starts chanelling Sanae no Kame's power. The look on Kanako and Suwako's faces... I wonder if Zun has considered this...

Alice is nearly as much a NEET as she.
Marisa is not gaining power by running laps and doing pushups.
They are researching new spells and making new potions (and new dolls in Alice's case) all the time.
Because they are bent over a desk or workbench all the time instead of running up a mountain does not mean they are not working hard.
