Obviously in the West we have a problem with memes becoming played-out and turned into irritating jokes and products, to the point where people are starting to dislike the very idea of memes. Does the Japanese internet have the same problem? Obviously 2channel (and to a lesser extent, Futaba Channel) have created and popularized a lot of neta, characters, kaomoji and so on, so do they have the same commercial exploitation and community backlash that websites like Something Awful and 4chan do?

A few places sell them, or at least similar ones. A lot of shops in Akihabara do. As for online, try J-List or amiami or somewhere.

someone should ask on 2channel

Kamen Rider Fourze's "UCHU KITA" is a form of brainwashing children to grow up and become NEET browsing futaba all day.

>> No.9572511

I only know about touhou shit on futaba, and as far as I know it doesn't seem that they really care about comercializing their internal memes, just like you don't see /jp/ers hanging around with a JBCS T-shirt out there.

Something something popularity secret clubs and then I raged hard Reddit.

It was doomed to happen. We simply don't have the content-over-identity mindset Japanese forums do, and combined with the nerd-as-cool movement it's not surprising how things turned out.

Multiculturalism

We as NEETs would still have better lifestyles if multicultrism wasn't around.

I'm not saying we shouldn't understand other cultures or accept outsiders, but the embrace of enveloping other cultures into our own creates a culture that is everything, which in the end means that culture is nothing.

Japan is headed down the same road.
What a shame.
Imperial Republic of Japan all the way.

It’s not that people in the West are having problems with memes being played out because our culture would put identity over content. All those annoying /b/ (and now /v/ and /sp/) memes normally are not tied to some personality.
The contend-over-identity or vice versa is a different subject.

>Something Awful

that site hasn't been relevant in years bro

but to your point no one can get tired of a meme because memes are just the heuristics of internet culture. people just move on to the next new thing, the same formula plays out in every culture with everything that becomes somewhat popular.

this thread is stupid.

I think the difference between 4chan and 2ch is that ever since 4chan got popular in 2006 people have been visiting mainly for the 'wacky meme culture' and everyone will spout memes because 4chan back then was portrayed as a secret cool kids club.

It's ingrained in a good 90% of posters to copy everyone else and act like a sheep so they can feel accepted on the boards.

In 2ch it's far too big to garner that kind of secret club mentality.

The exploitation and commercialization of memes on 4chan is entirely 4chan's own fault, because the kids who want to fit in seek as much attention as possible.
