Tibetan throat singing. No, I'm serious.

I had a friend who travelled to Urumqi (far western China, where there are a lot of Muslims) and bought back a whole pile of ethnic music CDs. There's just something really mystical and enchanting about Tibetan throat singing - it sounds nothing like the usual popular kind of music you find in the west.

These days touhou arranges take up a good majority of what I listen to. It's mostly because there is always something new to listen to when none of the bands I like have anything new out and I'm too lazy to find new bands on my own.

But as far was normal music goes I enjoy electronic music and rock/metalish sounding stuff just like how I like my touhou arranges. Tohou arranges have taught me that other genres of music are nice too but yet I don't enjoy them as much when I try to find normal versions of that stuff.

there are a ton of horrible vocaloid songs. i usually download 10 albums at a time and only 3 are worth listening to.

but the ones that are good are really good. i would assume that most of the people who like vocaloid enjoy the fact that the voices sound not-quite human. that's kind of the whole point. the fact that their voices are made by computer adds an entire new dimension to the sound, the way the voices crack when they pass their pitch limit or hit high and low notes staccato are really interesting.

In terms of arrangement it leans traceable back to the older stuff, for the most part basic with few overdubs. Heavy, too, and very energetic. I like it lot. It's a (loose) concept album, not really a rock opera or anything like that. No recurring musical themes.

If the crisp pop-rock they did back then is more your thing (Presto is my second favourite of theirs, I dig that) then this one possibly won't bring you back around.

Old Mortiis is amazing.

Between aidoru and arranges, I guess I do listen to Japanese music more than anything else, but it wasn't always so.

I grew up listening to a lot of British bands. First the mod and glam stuff my parents listened to (The Who, The Stones, Bowie), then punk (The Jam, The Damned, The Pistols), then post-punk (Bauhuas, Wire, Joy Division), then synthpop/new wave/romantic (Duran Duran, Tears for Fears, Depeche Mode) and British indie (The Smiths, The Cure, Echo & the Bunnyment) then shoegaze (MBV, Ride, Pale Saints) and baggy (Happy Mondays, Charlatans, Candyflip) then britpop (Suede, Marion, Pulp) and throughout the years many American bands that imitated those styles (The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Ocean Blue, Hot Hot Heat)...

A lot of stuff. I have a real sweet tooth for pop. During heavy drug periods I got into weirder stuff like krautrock and early ambient. Later I discovered ecstasy and with it a lifelong appreciation for electronic music as well. Oh yeah, and a lot of hip-hop.

I think there's good stuff in almost every genre and music is a real big thrill so I've searched out the best shit.

Would you mind listing up some krautrock (and pretty much everything else electronic-related) and electronic albums you liked? The more the merrier, so if you wouldn't mind doing this just list up all you can think of. Actually, you don't even need to limit yourself to electronic music, everything's fine, I might get interested in it.

This is the most stupid rationalization I've ever come across for using anime facebook. If you're at a point where you're watching so many shows you lose track of what episode you're in, then you're at the point you have lost track of that anime's story. Thanks, man. Sure.

Well, the basic touchstones for krautrock are Can, Neu!, Faust, Amon Duul II, and Ash ra Temple. There's a lot, lot, lot more but start with those guys earliest stuff and work your way forward. Some of those bands began to suck by the mid to late-70s, though, so be forewarned. A good bridge between the sounds of krautrock and electronica is, of course, Kraftwerk, although they are much more the latter than the former.

I got into techno/house first. The first techno track I ever heard was 808 State's "Cubik" and the first house record I ever heard was Psychic TV's Ultrahouse: The LA Connection, which was actually very experimental for acid house. In the 90s, I listened to LOADS of acid house. Hardkiss, 808 State, A Guy Called Gerald, Psychic TV, Bomb the Bass - all favorites. I also really loved the Detroit stuff from the 80s. Proto-electro shit like Juan Atkins/Model 500 and Cybotron... Kevin Saunderson. Brilliant, brilliant shit. Later, electronic artists were making full-fledged high concept records. Orbital was one of my favorites, along with Underworld. If I wanted to smoke a bowl or trip on acid I would listen to The Orb and have a wonderful time.

I hope you do, too.

Keep in mind that this is the very surface of these genres of music but I think it's good to start out with the classics because it will instill more of a love and understanding of the sound.

I either know what the story and the characters are about or I start from the beginning or I drop it entirely.
I only use MAL for keeping track of what episode I'm currently at with the shows I watch, which with my decline in interest in anime (or lack of good new anime) and increase in procrastination happens quite a lot. I suppose I could use a text file just as well.
