Its same like for movie stars or singers.
Just the idol industry is trying to give the fans the feeling that they can be close to their idol and influence their success. Also they idols still try to have the "normal girl" look that the fans don't feel like she is so high above them.

Personally I think some idols can be very entertaining and funny.

yes, but give 10 randoms a bit of power and at least one will become arogent and demanding because of it.
Just like you will get one who uses the power to help others. people are VERY different, Idols and Cleb's are no exception to this!

Yes
In the end they are just humans too its up to the fans to keep a realistic image of them or believe everything what they see.

I am also 1 of the people who has nothing against if they would date guys, but I can see a few reasons why some people don't like it.

Step one: Buy this book, it's probably the only good book about the idol industry to be published in English. It gives a good insight on the idol world, how it evolved during the '700s, '80s and '90s and its impact on popular culture throughout the years. Best of all, it does everything in an unbiased way and from an insider's perspective (the author spent a considerable amount of time interviewing those involved in it, from underground idols to big industry producers).
Step two: Ignore anyone else's "opinions", especially if coming from American expats posting on the Internet, because they're generally clueless.
Step three: Start talking with fans instead of asking random people around the Internet. In retrospect, that should've been step zero.

I'd rather have Japanese idols as a national celebrity than some random rapper singing about cappin' mofos and wanting to beat whiteys, honestly.

>I'd rather have Japanese idols as a national celebrity than some random rapper singing about cappin' mofos and wanting to beat whiteys, honestly.
Well, I think half of the appeal of liking idols/celebs for most people is the gossip and the horrible mistakes they do.
Perfect celebreties are boring and get no fame

I admire the Japanese idol system. If any idol tried some Britney Spears/Lindsay Lohan shit they'd be fired, get their contract ripped up and have to resort to porn and gravure.

Unless their name is Aya Hirano. Fucking whore.

Yeah, but that's not the point of being an idol in Japan. Most of the girls who enroll in those idol groups do it in hopes of using it as a stepping stone to fulfill their actual dreams and as such it is in everyone's best interest to make things go smoothly while they're in it. Considering their average age, it is best for everyone involved to keep gossips at a minimum even just as a matter of respect, although you can't obviously stop tabloids from making up shit about you.
The no-boyfriend and no-alcohol rules for example aren't there to "promote a virginal image yadda yadda" like some misguided people like to claim, but because it's a necessary sacrifice to keep them as far out of trouble as possible.
If you want to know what would happen if no such rules were in effect all you need to do is buy a random American magazine and open it on the showbiz section: you'll se there're generally more reports about "who's dating who" than there are about the celebrity's real activities. Not only is it a bad publicity, but it just distracts the audience from the actual focus which is how the celebrity's career is progressing. If you were a fan, you'd be pissed off about it.

>> No.9553603

I think the no smoking ban covers all ages. The no alcohol ban has some special dispensations on the other hand. If you watch any variety show you'll see how some of the older idols have no problem at all sipping away at sake or other acoholic beverages. One of the last DiVA singles even came with a special video where the girls had dinner at some traditional restaurant and they ate and drank away merrily for all the time.
Overall, the basic idea is that they shouldn't get drunk in public while unsupervised because of the unexpected consequences this might lead to. Otherwise the can do it as long as they're of age and do it responsibly.

All those hundreds of years worshiping the Emperor and the Imperial family came to an unexpected, brash, and humiliating halt proceeding Japan's announcement of surrender.

This had a huge negative social, spiritual, ethical, and historical impact on the Japanese. All of a sudden they had to reevaluate what it meant to be Japanese.

The Japanese had to fill the new whole or in their society, hearts, and minds, where upon that very whole use to be filled by the position of the "Divine Emperor".

In time idols rose to become what the Japanese filled for that empty position in their society, hearts, and minds.
They are like, yet somewhat higher than, America's Hollywood stars.

This is only a temporary solution to Japan's social, emotional, and spiritual gap though.

Japan has a high suicide rate.
They fill there over worked hearts with their idols to only realize that this simple joy of an Idol won't sustain their need for something more. They were temporarily occupied spiritually (I guess) and in mind by the idols.

But they embrace suicide as the permanent solution to their lack of something(The worship and adoration of the Emporer) in their society that gives them their need for spirituality, ethics, and Japanese history.

Idols are temporary in their search for happiness, but suicide seems to be what a large majority of the Japanese embrace as the permanent solution.
