I need your help /jp/. I've decided that I want to get a career in Japan. What are the best computer careers out there? I'm pursuing a computer programing degree and I'm teaching myself Nihongo, so anyone know or live there with a job in computers over there?

ACtually learn what a career job is like before you go picking countries to have them in.

Anyone?

>> No.954499

Programming or engineering. Probably the last would be better, the harder the job, the easier it is to get it and keep it during recession.

I'll probably work in Japan for a couple of years in the financial sector. Currently doing a bachelor's in accounting, and after that I'll study some hardcore finance to attain a really good degree and well-paid job in Japan. Aim high.

Just be a "network administrator" in whatever country you're in. It's much more fun than programming, I assure you.

Because you just make your network the most stable thing within kilometres and then do whatever the fuck you please at your station in that air conditioned server room. Including browsing /jp/.

Well the community college I'm attending is a 2-year degree program, so I guess after getting my degree in programing, I can just switch to engineering?

Well one of the other reasons I'm pursuing to japan is that I have family that lives there. My aunt teaches English and it seems that if I want a job over there, I'd have to get a degree of some kind and since computers are the only thing that interests me.

You could get your degree, then work for a company and see if you can get transfered over there.

How old are you anyways anon?

I know it has to be a Bachelor's Degree if I want to obtain a Work Visa there.

24, even though people still think I'm 16/17, yea a bit late on the whole college scene.

I don't know how the college system works in America. I did google search on IT jobs in Japan. According to most of them you need at least good knowledge in programming, and basic Japanese skills.

My friend is studying computer engineering and he's learning all kinds of programming. So yeah, I think it would be a good idea to study engineering. Aim high, don't take the easy studies, they don't pay much back later. If you could do some accounting on the side too it would be a huge plus on your CV.

I feel ya, I started college at 25.

I hear japan has a shortage of engineers of all types.

Thanks for the advice.
Also I'm not that good at math. I have to brush off my old skills if I want some accountant experience.

If you're going into CS, be sure to do so at a university with a good engineering program. Many schools with weaker technical programs seem to just teach programming and really basic database/network management, and don't go into much proper theory. Programming languages are something you can easily just learn on your own; you don't want to waste your money on classes for that shit.
