I've been to a couple of Russian imageboards and I'm surprised how popular they are. They're also the few imageboards where the site owners have gone crazy with the number of boards, but it's actually worked out.

If it wasn't for the images and bottom-of-the-barrel 4chan memes, I would say they're the closest to 2channel I've seen outside of Eastern Asia.

Unfortunately, it's built on the entirely opposite principles. Sure, you have hundreds of active boards with their own niche communities, in-jokes and content, but when you have a system that forces pseudonymity and rewards users with numbers for their posts, the site dynamic ends up completely different to an anonymous system.
