Well OP this place is a shithole, but I keep coming back.

I want to make my own jp but I have no idea how much it would cost run/pay for a website to be hosted.

Basically, I'd try to keep all the shitposting out and have a ' community shitpost' filter which would delete target posts after 30 votes to delete. If the 30 votes were troll votes though, the comment would be saved and could be un-deleted (in times of an invasion from other sites).

It's been talked about and people say don't worry no one will but: what about illegal content/cp posted on my site? I'm sure no one would risk posting it there though anyways. If so how would I deal with legal issues? I'd of course remove it asap but I'm only one person.

As far as boards, I'd just have a general /jp/ like board, and then a specific VN and Touhou board, as well as a unique 'poorfag lifestyles' (a thinly veiled NEET/Hikki board for people to discuss/exchange advice on how to live cost-effectively, where to get internet/stay at home jobs, eat cheaply, etc.)

-Board Ideas-
1) jp general (won't be called "jp"). Won't be stealing/relating to any direct culture of this board, going to try and start fresh.
2) Japanese language board. I'm wondering if I should make this NOT an imageboard, but a sort of forum where people need to register user accounts which would have "numbers only" character possibilities, so of course, it wouldn't be a big tripfag circlejerk, but it would keep trolls and such out--key posters would be listened to more, etc, and people could find quality threads easier. Anonymous users could post in the threads but only registered users could make them. Registered users could chose to mark anonymous posts as spam and have them be autohidden (users could then unhide if they chose to).
2) Touhou board. Probably wouldn't due to traffic, be it's own board.
3) VN board. Probably the only definite non-general board since there'd be constant flow of old and new content.
4) poorfag living (thinly veiled NEET/hikki living) - i described this in the post above or something. covers: cheap food, stay at home jobs, etc.
5) Manga board. Meta manga questions could be posted in the jp general (will use different name than jp), and upcoming manga/translated manga thread would be sticked. Other than this, specific manga could be discussed (like touhou manga, or devilman, etc). This way touhou fandom ish content would stick to the general board.

Serious thoughts guys? (I know there's 4 of us and 30 shitposters, but really).

Anyway, commendable that you’re attempting to find a 「solution」, but the site will only be usable, really, if it gets traffic (as in more than /bun/). And the people who haven’t stopped going on /jp/ because of /bun/ probably won’t do it with your spinoff, so it will likely be a dead place, too.

The thing with /jp/ is that it's hard to define something as an "on-topic" thread because there are no fucking agreed topics for this board (besides the stale Touhou threads and the one or two VN threads). Drop the amount of threads in the board to 30 or so, and clarify its definition in order to include more borderline content. Making threads expire by time again would be another viable option.

The VN board is there to pretty much have discussion regarding specific VN/LN's to be focused specifically on those, there (whereas meta discussions of what ones to read/DL would be posted on the general board).

Personally though, I would be excited for the "poorfag living" and "manga" board. Since there won't be an anime board, and anime discussion will (I will attempt) to be kept to a minimum (details in the docs), I think discussion globally would be more mature (mature not meaning 'no fun allowed').

Well I've gotten more ideas to change this, of course, I'm taking more suggestions. Honestly, if I make the sub boards text boards and such to keep the general board clean--which is the 'main hub' imageboard--I think things could move fast enough.

The other benefits is you won't need any annoying addons or a certain browser for the addons. I'll try and implement the basic things people want like expanded images on mouse hovering, black board, white text, etc.

In times of excess spam or raids, kanji captcha might be implemented for a 1-2 day period or so (if that ever happens).

My thoughts, take them for what you will:

As long as there is at least one other person who can speak Japanese and post maturely I promise the Japanese board will have more than just a few posts a week.

I only think there should be a Touhou and maybe a VN board since I'm not interested in these things and they'd end up taking over if it were just one board.

I think anime should be allowed to be discussed within reason as long as it doesn't overwhelm the main board, if it does, you can always make a separate board for it. If you want manga to have its own board then that's cool It'd be nice to have somewhere kind of slow and mature (ie. not /a/) to discuss shows occasionally.

I'd prefer imageboards to textboards in the end. Textboards can be just as full of garbage as imageboards and honestly a Japanese textboard really would end up dead. NSFW content is fine by me.

Kanji captcha sounds good if it's feasible to implement.
