Not that guy but anime became more and more of a caricature of itself ever since word got out that it was profitable (You can thank Japanese media popularizing otaku and the densha otoko shit) and then the big publishing companies shouldered their way in and started dictating to the studios what should and shouldn't be made. This put pressure on animators, manga-ka and other people in the industry who worked in increasingly shittier conditions for less money, they dropped out and now do 'pro-amateur' doujin stuff at comiket.

Meanwhile Aniplex and Kadokawa-shouten continue to battle it out by overmarketing their shit and making as much money from otaku-written Light Novels as possible.

Oh and this started around the time the private rail opened in Akihabara which brought a bunch of commuters and consumer interests to Akiba; hence Akibaranger's plot. And the street events got closed because of the massacre too, so that killed a large part of it.

Now add all that to Japan's economic downturn that got worse in 2008-2009 and you have a lot of desperate big publishing companies trying to make a lot of quick cash from whatever shit they can.

This didn't necessarily used to be the case, in many genres; there were plenty of characters that were considered "cute" but were actual well-written characters and weren't just shitty, one-dimensional moeblobs. Yes, said shitty one-dimensional moeblobs have always existed, but they're crossing over into genres where they typically haven't been before and in greater numbers and that's certainly pushing some buttons.

Same thing happened with anime that happened with doujins: people copying their heroes too much and not developing their own style.

Most anime that comes out now is a recycled version of stuff from years ago the writers clearly wanted to emulate, but it's just too similar. They've tried to cram too many cliches in to the point where it eclipses the work itself.

Same with doujins circles, they used to be made of friends who just created fan works, but now they're employing their own seiyuu and acting like indie-studios. Some of these are backed by ex-manga ka and animators as someone above mentioned, but a lot of them are just 'monkey see monkey do'. They don't understand the charm of doujinshi comes from seeing something raw and clearly fan made. A brushed, professional product loses that charm.

I think if you're trying to be sarcastic then you're way out of scope, this is a recent development - I'd say past 5 years ago. It's got nothing to do with 'nostalgic anime' or whatever. Many people here are anime lovers that work from a backlog, we just wanna move past this shit and get onto something good again.

Do not confuse real anime fans who care about the medium enough to be able to point out and identify it's shortcomings in a grown up manner with kids who grew up on a few anime series and want everything to be like that. There's a big difference.
