I do not doubt that some people's abuse experiences are traumatic. But mine were not. I made my peace with what happened and my reactions to it completely outside the mental health system and the existing forms of support on sexual abuse because I did not feel there was a place for me and my feelings about the event. I was either dismissed as not having an experience bad enough or made to feel that I was repressing. And there was no room at all to confess that I had been complicit, that I had wanted the attention of these teenagers. Not to mention that the good touch/bad touch education I went through before and afterwards just exacerbated my guilt. Oh, and then as an adult trying to grapple with the truth of my memory in the face of a culture that ignores children who are abused in ways that seem more benign, I began to feel like something must be wrong with me, I must have been born a slut or sick or deviant in some way because apparently all other kids respond with fear and revulsion instead of curiousity.
