Why does everyone on /jp/ act like they have autism?

I met a kid with autism once and he could barely talk, his mood would swing about randomly, and he had crazy retard strength. Are any of you actually autistic? You just seem shy and socially inept.

autistic people have diffrent degrees of functioning, some might seem genuiely retarded, some will just appear shy. it's the case with both aspergers and ``real'' autism actually. it's a pretty diverse group, one person is hardly representative of how autists in general act like.

mind you, usually when people on 4chan call each others autists it's not really serious. it's more like a running joke or an insult. just mentioning since i'm not sure if you get it, sorry if it was obvious.

In High School, I had a spergshit girl that sat next to me in Calculus. I had to partner up with her once since my only buddy in the class was absent. It's unreal, she just started talking about stupid shit I didn't give a fuck about like kingdom hearts, and she never got my signals that I didn't want to talk anymore, that I even looked directly away from her, and she kept talking to the back of my head. Then I tried to hold in my laughter but could not. Lucky for me she had aspergers and couldn't tell I was laughing at her. I was annoyed enough that I told her to be quiet and do her work and she obeyed.

No, she wasn't pretty. Lesson is, Aspergers don't know anything about fitting in with people, they think they do with everyone.

maybe some of you should spend some time with real autismos.
This girl had okay grades from what I could tell, but was completely retarded in everything else. For Halloween she came to school dressed as some kingdom hearts character and dyed her hair raid and had two little discs with her.
Then she played ninja by herself in the hallways and everyone who looked in her direction was confronted and had to suffer through her costume explanation, or attacked with the little cardboard discs.

That's how I can tell most of /jp/ isn't anywhere close to this type of Autism. They're too aware of how poor they are at socializing. You guys are just socially stunted.

I don't have aspergers, but I'm highly-functioning autistic. It's actually kind of interesting that you noted that we don't realize how inept we are socially... this is, in actual fact very much the case. I got the hell beat out of me in school and didn't actually get DIAGNOSED as autistic until I was 27. Now that I've been TOLD that the stuff I do is irritating and have a few friends who point out "You're not supposed to do that" it's not so bad.

In actual fact this image is only about 1/4 of my actual fort, but its JP related because that square think with the pillars of adamantium in it is actually the base of a pagoda, and the pillars leading up to the fort itself are actually torii gates. I had a horrible case of aspergers. But I have learned so much in the last ten years that it doesn't show anymore. At least not immediately. It's not that I'm incredibly funny now. Nor am I super popular with girls. But I have definitely reached the average level in social competence. I don't know how it happened. It was a smooth transition. I only realized the difference at the times when I saw videos of my self that were older than a year.

I think one of the biggest traps in autism/aspergers is blaming your mistake on others and then rationalizing it. (You're good at rationalizing, aren't you?) You will stop learning at that point. Blame yourself. Reflect a lot. ASD is a explanation for your behaviour, no excuse. Change is possible.

Also, stay the hell away from self-help-groups.

Oh, I'm not going to win any beauty contests, that's for sure. I don't get out much due to the fact that I've utterly stunted my social growth. I have an unfortunate tendency to tell people exactly what I think of them, and that too tends to get me in a great deal of trouble... people ASK you what you think, but woah boy do they NOT actually mean that. I tend to gve people frank assessments of the situation, step by step, and at one point someone made a major issue out of whether or not my applying peanut butter with a spoon was 'weird' so I explained why I did it, he informed me it was still weird, I informed him it was the more optimal tool for applying semiliquid peanut butter, which I was - in fact- doing at the time. He still didn't believe me, so I drew him a graph describing surface area, ease of cleaning, and both the fluid mechanics supporting that and the math explaining the surface area vs a standard butter knife. I compounded this to explain how much faster and more effective the tool was for the job I was using it for.

He is no longer my roommate. He insists that it's like living with 'Sheldon' from 'The Big Bang Theory'. This doesn't really mean anything to me though, as I don't really watch TV. I'm still assuming it's an insult, though.

I use a tileset simply because I prefer how engraved obsidian walls look IN the tileset and I'm too lazy to replace the ascii.

It took me about two months of work to get the thing built. The hardest part was producing the massive obsidian caster/screw pump array required to place the gigantic slab of obsidian you see floating in the middle of the ocean. Once that was done, it was smooth sailing from there.

Interestingly I DID actually generate after the minecart release I think, and I've played with them a little bit but they're most useful as weapons so far.

Fun fact: Create a track stop at the bottom of a massive multi-z-level slope (works great when breaking into hostile cavern areas, especially a dark fortress) and place a cart at the top with a generator. Propel the cart forward, down the tracks, but first load it with tons of cheap weapons. The heavier the better (I tested it with obsidian swords and blocks of obsidian, since I have a massive overabundance of obsidian, now) and send it hurtling down the track. Place a trigger before the stop, preferably 1 z-level or so above it and have it trigger as soon as the cart reaches that. The result is that when the cart hits the track stop, all the contents forcibly fly from the cart like sharpened bullets and bounce around the confined area. Combined with a drawbridge and the proper timing it is wholly possible to create a 3x3 monster Cuisinart that will completely shred anything foolish enough to get trapped in it (including the occasional semi-megabeast or army of undead monstrosities in a demonic fortress.)

That floor's actually that color because the area around it is designated to be plated with a specific kind of wood. It'll all be the same color soon enough, and I'm going to toss a couple statues in the middle and designate that section as a meeting area for nobles because it keeps the on one of the upper floors well away from any potential activity that could result in them survivi--- getting injured.

I try to rationalise all the asymmetries in my fort by imagining that a given wall was impossible to dig through or a dwarf dug through a wall against my orders, etc.
Sometimes I end up deleting entire maps when it gets too bad though. Also I always delete the entire map because I like my fortress to be the only one of my creation in the world.

Your fortress is completely retarded, DWARFS DON'T BUILD SHIT ON SURFACE. That's why they are dwarfs. I'd show you how to make proper cavern fortress and mine out pillars with lava dispersal but i have deleted that save. God i hate when people build shit on surface

You can make them "Smooth X brick floor" if you first take the ore or stone to a mason/metalsmith workshp and have them made into blocks or bars. Those produce a much more appealing surface and they're almost a whole 1 value point more in worth in most cases. My own yellow floor issue will soon be solved when I peel up that floor and 'carpet' the area, though. Note: Another effective way to eliminate the "Rough x floor" is to NOT make roads/metal/stone floors at all, but rather make wooden floors or roads. They always produce a "X wood floor" or "x wood road" and roads contribute towards your overall fort value even if they're inside your walls.

Oh wow, that is amazing. My friend postulated that you could make a minecart railgun, but that is far better I think. I really have to play now.

Why do you find other people's differing playstyles so offensive? They're just trying to have fun, just like you.

I've had to abandon a couple fortresses in this particular world. I reclaimed one later.

This one is, stupidly, built in range of not 1, not 2, but THREE necromancer towers.

This has proven fatal for a total of 6 necromancer apprentices so far. They just keep coming. The fact that my main fortress is in the middle of the ocean and my corpse stockpile is therefore about ten z-levels below the surface makes it even more difficult for necromancers to actually do anything worthwhile. Goblins have apparently decided my fortress is not worth trying to capture after they sent six crocodile-mounted goblin lancers to take my fortress over via my underground water pump facility, only to discover that while crocodiles can survive almost indefinitely under the surface... goblin lancers cannot.

The general packed his shit up and left once the bodies washed ashore.

How come you don't realize that's not how dwarfs are? If you can't be a proper dwarf wh yare you even playing?

There's only one thing that dwarves love more than lava and stone.

Smashing goblins.

Seabase 'Questionable Methods' is very, very good at smashing goblins.

also: Bite me.

The wood thing was a good idea, but I was pointing out how that one building has an extended 2x2 part, and another is actually intersecting with a second building. I can't even imagine doing the second thing.(even the former sort of thing only happens against outside walls) It'd be even worse to me than not making all buildings odd number of tiles on one side so I can put the door in the exact middle.

Actually the way you talk about designations sort of makes me want to make a color coded fortress next time. It'd solve the case that I got some wood of a color I didn't like.

>Also I always delete the entire map because I like my fortress to be the only one of my creation in the world.
I almost always make a new world too, but that's more due to the area I chose being the one I felt was the best for what I wanted to try and there usually not being another area that fits as well, or wanting to try something else.

I don't reclaim for what should be obvious reasons.

It's a lot of fun. note that you have to really watch your proximity to necromancer towers because if you're within embark range (IE: it shows up under populations at embark) they can invade you WITHIN THE FIRST SEASON even if they're not listed as hostile (Hell, even if they're listed as FRIENDLY they can still try to invade). The result can be nearly unstoppable levels of FUN.

However, if you survive long enough to get adamantine, there are some new ways you can use minecarts to generate adamantine.

1) Each arrow creates 1 wafer of adamantine.
2) Each wafer of adamantine creates 1 bundle of arrows.
3) Separating each bundle magically creates free adamantine.
4) Putting bundles of arrows in a minecart and crashing it can separate arrows.
5) FREE ADAMANTINE.

it's not as automatable as the 'candy farm' system where you have someone fire a bolt and have it hit a door, then fire a bolt again, but you can do it with MANY bundles of bolts at once, so it's not bad once you get a cotton-candy-cloning industry already established.

however, it's worth noting that it's still very, very slow. It took me a long time to generate a couple hundred units of adamantine.

My playstyle is irrelevant. Personally I prefer building underground as well. But you didn't answer my question.
