Were you upset?

I remember a whole bunch of news stories where dumb kids had to receive psychiatric treatment after their Tamagotchis died.

Have one of these on your keychain would be pretty retrocool. Have they even changed at all?

>> No.9344924

When you battle them were you supposed to keep them connected?
I remember we used to connect them and then walk off and it would still work, as if the result was predetermined at the time of connection or something.

You know, I seriously don't want to look it up. If they're still going, they probably have more than 2 colors now, and that alone would ruin everything.

An entire generation raised to have affection for a virtual creature. What could possibly go wrong?

>> No.9344942

>The main controversy over Tamagotchi digital pets involved children taking them to school because the first two Tamagotchi releases (Generation 1 and Generation 2) could die in less than half a day from lack of care. Worry over potential ownership disputes, class disruptions and general distraction from schoolwork has led many schools to ban the product, which led to the virtual pet's decline in popularity.[12] In response to this controversy, Bandai's later Tamagotchi releases included a Pause feature as well as the ability to turn the sound off when desired.
On August 3, 2005, South Australian MP Nick Xenophon attempted to ban the Tamagotchi Connection Version 2 (or at least have it classified R18+) due to the "Slot" game featured on it, fearing that it would make children grow up to become the "gambling addicts of tomorrow".[13]
Many male Tamagotchi fans[who?] have criticised Bandai for marketing the recently released Tamagotchi Connection series (2004–2009) primarily towards a female audience, rather than to a unisex audience, as was the case of the original releases (1996–1998.) However, Bandai did release a series of virtual pets called DigiMon which are aimed at males.[citation needed]

The gambling thing I've never understood.

Like here in the UK, despite all the media FUD, we tend to be pretty good with censorship. A lot of stuff that gets censored in the US is released here no problem. But when stupid shit happens like Pokemon has a gambling mini game, all of Europe throws a shit-fit.

My mother has a little box filled with over 60 different virtual pets, including digimon, tomogatchi, and some other ones. Most of them are broken, I think, and the others require batteries I don't have on hand.
