Why is it that it's only the west(and Russia, I guess) that's figured out how to cinematography.

It's like the rest of the world just figured out how to use cameras

Korean/Japanese live action films are so hard to watch. I don't know if it's the editing or what, but it's totally unappealing. The atmospheres and moods are always so trashy.

I also hate watching movies made after the year ~1985 in general, so it doesn't help that it seems like all the 'best' Asian films were made in the last ten years.

South Korea is Japan's crappy copycat.

Korean, do not parasitic on the board related to Japan!
Japan and South Korea, but the closest physically, mentally most distant country.
Japan and South Korea, so close, yet so far away.
Korean culture and Japanese culture, totally different seems to be similar.

Have you watched Wong Kar Wai's stuff? Or any of the cinematography of China that ISN'T sponsored by the CCP?

It's usually pretty good. But then all those directors have had foreign exposure. Indigenous film makers in asia tend to be fucking terrible.
