So, me and my best friend are planning to go to Japan in three years. We're planning to stay there for a year. We already saved up a lot of money, so hopefully that won't be a problem. Anyway, we were just wondering about the people in Japan. I'm Turkish (but I was born in Holland and I still live here) and my best friend is half Filipino and half Dutch. She looks really asian, so I think she won't have a problem with Japanese people, but I always think they will be kinda racist towards me... I often hear Japanese people can be racist and discriminate people from other countries. I'm not sure if that's true though. Anyway, do I have to be afraid? My best friend says I should. Like I said, she is asian, she doesn't have to be afraid to be treated different, but I'm Turkish, I hope they won't compare me to some terrorists or something....

Good luck with that. IIRC, the maximum temporary visa you can obtain is three months. Don't quote me on that, but I'm fairly certain. The Japanese government doesn't like foreigners invading their Glorious Nippon for too extended a period of time.
