Does /jp/ believe there is a God?

>> No.9324967

No, but someone with the intelligence of a Christian told me this once.

Now we've calmed down a little and trying to seem witty, eh?
1. Back to school to learn how to read. I never said such a thing.
2. That equals to accusing me of being not japanese and not living in Japan to play japanese games. So, fuck you.
3. Go to point 1.
4. Everything I hear from you on the other hand is constant whining and screaming. That other guy just salved the problem without breaking a sweat, but I can't hear him beside your flaming butthurt.
5. My line, not yours.
6. Go be sarcastic and obscure with your parents, you faggot. No one gets it anyway. Provided you know what these are.
7. Nah, I'm just correct about you.
8. Says the person who called me autist like 4 times already. In a row. Without even proving his point. Sure you okay?
9. We've run out of arguments already, how sad! Now call me a jew, a nigger, a racist, a troll, a weeaboo or something else. Like it makes sense here.
10. I've cleared like 90% of this game without even thinking about swapping the locale, how should I know? And why am I making excuses in front of some nameless faggot? Both makes no sense whatsoever.

Now if you are still in the mood of elevating this petty squabble, I suggest you give me your skype, so that I could prove to you your infantility and wrongness without annoying normal people. Come on, faggot, where's your toughness now? You will allow some silly kid to openly make fun of you? Pathetic.

The one cold = evil analogy one?

>> No.9325004

Does evil exist?

The university professor challenged his students with this question. Did God create everything that exists? A student bravely replied, "Yes, he did!"

"God created everything? The professor asked.

"Yes sir", the student replied.

The professor answered, "If God created everything, then God created evil since evil exists, and according to the principal that our works define who we are then God is evil". The student became quiet before such an answer. The professor was quite pleased with himself and boasted to the students that he had proven once more that the Christian faith was a myth.

Another student raised his hand and said, "Can I ask you a question professor?"

"Of course", replied the professor.

The student stood up and asked, "Professor, does cold exist?"

"What kind of question is this? Of course it exists. Have you never been cold?" The students snickered at the young man's question.

The young man replied, "In fact sir, cold does not exist. According to the laws of physics, what we consider cold is in reality the absence of heat. Every body or object is susceptible to study when it has or transmits energy, and heat is what makes a body or matter have or transmit energy. Absolute zero (-460 degrees F) is the total absence of heat; all matter becomes inert and incapable of reaction at that temperature. Cold does not exist. We have created this word to describe how we feel if we have no heat."

>> No.9325007

>>9325004

The student continued, "Professor, does darkness exist?"

The professor responded, "Of course it does."

The student replied, "Once again you are wrong sir, darkness does not exist either. Darkness is in reality the absence of light. Light we can study, but not darkness. In fact we can use Newton's prism to break white light into many colors and study the various wavelengths of each color. You cannot measure darkness. A simple ray of light can break into a world of darkness and illuminate it. How can you know how dark a certain space is? You measure the amount of light present. Isn't this correct? Darkness is a term used by man to describe what happens when there is no light present."

Finally the young man asked the professor, "Sir, does evil exist?"

Now uncertain, the professor responded, "Of course as I have already said. We see it every day. It is in the daily example of man's inhumanity to man. It is in the multitude of crime and violence everywhere in the world. These manifestations are nothing else but evil."

To this the student replied, "Evil does not exist sir, or at least it does not exist unto itself. Evil is simply the absence of God. It is just like darkness and cold, a word that man has created to describe the absence of God. God did not create evil. Evil is not like faith, or love that exist just as does light and heat. Evil is the result of what happens when man does not have God's love present in his heart. It's like the cold that comes when there is no heat or the darkness that comes when there is no light."

The professor sat down.

The young man's name — Albert Einstein.

Yes. I spoke with him face to face fourteen years back.

I was driving home from the horse track, and some punk kid's truck plowed right into me. He survived and ran off, and I couldn't move. I slowly bled to death and woke up. I was in the clouds, no world below me. I was sitting at a wooden table, God across on the other side.

Long story short, I didn't want to be dead. So we made a deal. If I could beat him in a game of mahjong, I'd have a second chance. He wins, I go to hell.

God was winning for the most part, until the final hand. I was one tile away from a Dai Sushi. All I needed was the 9sou. But God, being omnipotent, knew I needed this, and had prearranged the tiles so that it was the last tile in the wall, and he would get it. I predicted this.

When there were two tiles left, I pulled a sleight of hand. I quickly flipped the two tiles as I drew. "Tsumo". Yakuman.

God said to me, "Do you think you can cheat the Lord?" I knelt, and said "You did not prevent it from happening, so you had arranged for me to do so." He laughed. I blacked out, and then woke up in the hospital.

God is self-restricting because the only way for there to be love is if there's free will. In order for there to be things that are not God if since he is omnipresent he must create spaces within which they can be created.

In order to create the vaccum of free will he must withdraw parts of himself so that humans can willingly choose to let parts of Him in.

It's the same logic as the rock bigger than God can lift. Yes he COULD make a rock he couldn't lift but because he is self-limiting he would never do something that illogical.

It's funny because in real stories like this, atheists always have some awkward, convenient scapegoat answer. “Oh, you were hallucinating! It was such-and-such a chemical in your brain, handily released at the right time to make you see a perfect vision of God!”

Then when you apply anything remotely similar to religion, e.g. “No, God can't just appear before you, because you need to have faith in Him.” all atheists are suddenly flapping their mouths about how sarcastically convenient that is. Which isn't even a thing, given that it's one of the founding principles of religion.

A liberal muslim homosexual ACLU lawyer professor and abortion doctor was teaching a class on Karl Marx, known atheist

”Before the class begins, you must get on your knees and worship Marx and accept that he was the most highly-evolved being the world has ever known, even greater than Jesus Christ!”

At this moment, a brave, patriotic, pro-life Navy SEAL champion who had served 1500 tours of duty and understood the necessity of war and fully supported all military decision made by the United States stood up and held up a rock.

”How old is this rock, pinhead?”

The arrogant professor smirked quite Jewishly and smugly replied “4.6 billion years, you stupid Christian”

”Wrong. It’s been 5,000 years since God created it. If it was 4.6 billion years old and evolution, as you say, is real… then it should be an animal now”

The professor was visibly shaken, and dropped his chalk and copy of Origin of the Species. He stormed out of the room crying those liberal crocodile tears. The same tears liberals cry for the “poor” (who today live in such luxury that most own refrigerators) when they jealously try to claw justly earned wealth from the deserving job creators.

The students applauded and all registered Republican that day and accepted Jesus as their lord and savior. An eagle named “Small Government” flew into the room and perched atop the American Flag and shed a tear on the chalk. The pledge of allegiance was read several times, and God himself showed up and enacted a flat tax rate across the country.

The professor lost his tenure and was fired the next day. He died of the gay plague AIDS and was tossed into the lake of fire for all eternity.

Atheism is not a religion. It is a lack of faith. A lack of faith is not faith. Not collecting stamps is not a hobby. Atheism is not the Big Bang theory and it is not the theory of Evolution. Science is not a religion, it is a method for discovering new knowledge. Atheism is only a religion in the same way that not believing is Santa Clause is also a religion. If everything you don't believe in is considered a religion then there are an infinite amount of religions. The burden of proof lies on people claiming that a god exists. There is no purpose for our existence, only causes. Morality is independent of religion. Actions done under the belief that punishment awaits are impure. "Good" and "bad" are only human perceptions.
Religion is the epitome of ignorance, it is a deadly ignorance. It is an abomination and insult to reason. It is a political tool used to control large populations. It is a security blanket for those that fear death. It is a cheap answer to questions that science cannot at this time explain. It is the result of a lack of information. Religion is holding mankind from it's potential.
Religion continues to exist because of tradition, early indoctrination and an emotional response to deny the coldness of reality. Once indoctrinated the believer becomes loyal to his religion. Because he has invested so much of his life/time and emotion into his religion he becomes openly hostile to people that question his faith. He responds with anger and emotion instead of curiosity. He is unable to look critically at his beliefs. Religious people are feelers. They believe in their religion because they WANT it to be true. They are our lost brothers and sisters.

In this argument though it's more like tending towards 0. Think of all your computer games that have Good and Evil meters, where -100 is Hitler-Satan and +100 is rms, with 0 being Neutral. Here the scale is from 0 ("Evil", the absence of Good) to 100 (really Good) with "Neutral" falling somewhere in between. So while you may be gaining NEGATIVE KARMA (or, losing positive points) and perhaps even accelerating/decelerating in one direction, 0 is the lowest you can go. Satan is mentioned by Jesus but most of the connections you see made between him and pagan gods like Baal, Lucifer, some multi-headed metaphorical dragon in Revelation, and various Psalms are weak. My own personal theology is that the evil humans inflict on one another needs no spiritual motivations and that humans can be pretty scary on their own. The exorcist was fictional and there's convincing arguments that the demons in the new testament were just mental illnesses that Jesus cured. I can't get into it all but it's the type of theological subject people have spent their whole lives studying and writing about.

As some people have pointed out, most of what Christianity believes about angels and the devil is either made-up bullshit or grossly distorted. Nowhere in the Bible does it say the devil is a fallen angel, and 'Lucifer' referred to some ancient king, not the devil. For angels, we know even less than for satan; all we know is that they are God's servants. I'm not even sure if they're ever even seen with their typical wings in the Bible.

This Cracked article actually had some surprising info for me as well, even though I'm a Christian who actually looks up the authenticity of stuff: http://www.cracked.com/article_18757_5-things-you-wont-believe-arent-in-bible.html

Somebody make a similar chart on how history books contradict each other. It clearly shows that our history is completely made up!

The individual books in the bible were originally that, individual books. Between 300 and 400 AD, the Church evaluated a whole bunch of books and basically decided that certain books were ABSOLUTE INFALLIBLE TRUTH while others were UTTER AND ABSOLUTE ANTICHRIST LIES. The result of this process is the INFALLIBLE AND YOU WILL GO TO HELL IF YOU DISAGREE Bible, which from that point on was THE ABSOLUTE PERFECT SOURCE of information on anything regarding Christianity.

But even before that shit happened, books were copied by hand, and changes were made as things were copied (especially for the four main books of the New Testament there's tons and tons of evidence that lots of it has been modified; there are even strong theories about how Matthew and Luke are basically just compilation books of Mark and a lost source).

Basically, humans messed with the Bible from the very start, so it's been mutilated to hell and back. The important parts are mostly intact, but you should take every detail with a spoon of salt.

"I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things."

Don't believe in Jesusfag, God is not a feel-good, all-loving deity. If you rape a virgin, he commands to marry her. He promotes polygamy. If he wants you to do genocide, you must do it or he'll curse and kill you. The Old-Testament God is much more realistic than the NT Jesus guy. Oh, and he's a capitalist. If you fuck someone else's wife you are to be stoned because you have stolen property. I could go on and on. 2. A Game is being played... where heads or tails will turn up.

3. According to reason, you can defend neither of the propositions.

4. You must wager. (It's not optional.)

5. Let us weigh the gain and the loss in wagering that God is. Let us estimate these two chances. If you gain, you gain all; if you lose, you lose nothing.

6. Wager, then, without hesitation that He is. (...) There is here an infinity of an infinitely happy life to gain, a chance of gain against a finite number of chances of loss, and what you stake is finite. And so our proposition is of infinite force, when there is the finite to stake in a game where there are equal risks of gain and of loss, and the infinite to gain.

And if God does exist or not it's not the problem, the problem is that you have to grind the same.

I know it's not the *only* argument and it's more of a fallback, but I've always felt this is like blackmail or some sort of deception. I guess part of religion has always been, "Believe this or bad stuff will happen!" but when you reduce it to this, the believers look like assholes.

You could follow the belief that the universe has always existed, which would rule out the need for a "creator". Still, I'm in your camp when it comes to God.

>>9326301
It does not take into account the extent to which you must "believe", and there are no solid guidelines to follow in order to gain acceptance into heaven. Aside from this, believing simply because you wish to gain is a selfish act which would probably discount any notion of supposed "goodwill". Pascal's wager also doesn't take into account which religious institution worships the right God. To say that you lose nothing is wrong. You lose time, energy, and the strength of your own ideals; to reduce your life to a gamble is to degrade your own self.

This is only my analysis of Pascal's Wager. There's been plenty of criticism toward it over the years.

The number of possible religions which are correct is 1 or 0. Either 1 religion is right and all others are wrong, or all religions are wrong together.

So assuming 2000 religions in the world that means 1999 are wrong and only 1 is right.

The problem in general, with Pascal's Wager, is that Hell in it's currently incarnation was not was originally in the Bible, and it was created after the fact to instill fear that torment will befall a person who doesn't believe in god.

For one, if God is loving, and created man with free will, why must he force you to love him? Theoretically he could have created you to always love him. Why is it the word of god, when it was created, and much of the book was written after those, who supposedly talked to God, died?

Christian believe has me believe that my creator, is a vengeful, selfish parent who will kill, or torture the children who don't love him, and only love, and reward those who do. Robbing them of free will, creativity. And putting them into a neurotic state to do, or believe everything he says, out of fear of punishment.

Atheism: The arrogant faith that there is no God and that being a guy in his mid 20s and reading Richard Dawkin's book is enough to assure everyone that you are smart enough to know the possibility of a supremely divine creator of all things is completely impossible, because of 400 or so years of human scientific advancement in a 13~ billion year old Universe and that it's perfectly rational and reasonable that a huge explosion happened for no reason and some elements mixed together for no reason and became alive for no reason, and evolved in to bacteria and plants for no reason which evolved in to humans for no reason, and we all live and die for no reason.

Christianity: The faith that some 1600-2000 year old book of shitposting is right, and that the Universe is only 6000 years old, and that preceding civilizations and architecture are all fake or just fit in the time frame that is most convenient for the argument of their God.

Islam: Some militant neckbeard who married a 9 year old girl and preaches that you should kill non-Muslims and said that he is teaching the word of God is the FINEST GENTLEMAN in history, and you have to pray to the Jihad God several times per day.

It's nice when a poster asks a legitimate question regarding the board community and its own posters shit on their own place for 100+ posts.

While there are lots of annoying atheists, you have to understand that any christian who claims 'excuse me, what have I done to offend you' is passively supporting teaching creation theory in schools, the pro-life agenda, amongst others, just by labeling themselves 'christian'. It doesn't matter if they vote democrat or republican, or even if they are apathetic about those issues.

By labeling yourself christian, you lend credibility and the illusion of numbers to the fundies. Sure, you may not mean to, but you are. This is why these annoying atheists will constantly attack people's ideas.

Me, I just want people to actually think about their beliefs, and understand that most people really are incapable of that, so don't bother harassing them.

Except that Christianity is like a melting pot of pagan stuff with a new coat of paint, hardly a minimalist approach. Though the non-god-centric OC fluff is interesting, but that hardly gets any focus nowadays.

On religious design, I value compartmentalization, instead of catch-all solutions.

What has religion got to do with God? One is the creator of the Universe, the other is a shitpile of instutional oppressive dogma.

I think if people aren't capable of thinking about it they shouldn't have an opinion about it either.

Because people have a right to do what they want with their bodies. All abortion clinics do is reduce the orphaned population / unsafe abortion practices / babies left to die. Getting rid of abortion clinics doesn't stop babies from being killed.

This is an assumption, but I'd say you'd agree with the phrase 'guns don't kill people, people kill people.' I agree with it too. Abortion clinics don't kill babies, people kill babies.

See, but I'm not going to argue that because you won't convince a pro-lifer that. I'm going to argue in a way that makes sense to them. It's the optimal form of communication, and will be more likely to convince them of my point.

>Because people have a right to do what they want with their bodies

Yes, and they exercised that right to their bodies and decided to have unprotected sex without birth control. This is a conscious decision, and they know the risks. The "but they would be born poor and to bad families" argument really doesn't hold water. Go ask any poor kid if he would rather be dead, the vast majority would say no.

Let me ask you a question. How many months in should a woman be able to get an abortion? When the baby comes out of the woman is it suddenly a human?

Does it matter if there is a god? A god is a figure for people to look up to, to worship, to give people purpose and direction. It does not matter if it truly exists or not.

Personally? I don't believe in god, or worship any gods. I do like the concept of an afterlife however, whether it be reincarnation, heaven, valhalla, jannah, nirvana... pretty much anything that isn't rotting in the ground or being tormented forever is fine with me.
