This isn't some kind of ploy to make quick buck on horny teenagers - it's a legitimate desire to improve public perception of eroge.

Think about it - to people who don't read them, eroge with good plot at the end of the day just come off as an excuse to jerk of while pretending that you're reading it for the DEEP and MATURE plot.

But publishing and promoting shit like this? It's brash, it's unashamed, it just screams "Yeah, this is porn, what of it?". It takes the seediness right out of the image of the medium by embracing the silliness and parody. Just pretend it's all ironic and self-aware and hipsters are gonna love this shit.

>I think we all know who's the boss now.
Except, you know, all of MG's titles are crappy nukige except for one game that was already translated ages ago. 8 times nothing of value is still nothing of value.

Not saying JAST is much better, though, with their utter lack of releases. It's just that MG also went down the drain and is now as terrible as JAST, if not worse.

The past has shown that in a situation like this everyone involved will just keep churning out cheap nukige and nothing else as there's no serious competition...the only way we can still get any decent titles released is if a third company joins the industry and upsets the balance. But considering all of JAST's competitors have either pulled out of the industry, gone bankrupt or became pure nukige publishers, we'd need a miracle for that to happen...

>> No.9322547

He definitely would. Back when the drama was still going on, Ixrec offered his translations for free for official licensing. The only reason he backed out of it was because the licensing was going nowhere and he couldn't release the patches without backing out of it.

MangaGamer isn't in too bad of shape right now, they still have some decent titles on the way. So then why is this stupid?

Developer has a sick game, but is indie studio. They have to go through valve protocol in order to get it on steam, which takes forever and a fucking half.

Compare it to:

Developer has sick game. People everywhere see it, have played the demo, and want valve to publish it. Suddenly, it's the #1 rated thing on greenlight, and hype is everywhere. Valve now jumps through hurdles to get it out faster than they normally would, expediting the process.

It is very hard for indie games to compete with big studios. Valve is notorious for randomally rejecting games, and this will make it much easier for indie studios to publish. The key word is indie. Not a damn thing will change besides small publishers getting more publicity, which is what valve has been pushing for a very, very long time.

You definitely haven't been hanging around indie dev communities. Most people believe Valve just rolls a hundred-sided die and only accepts your entry if you get a specific number. People are absolutely clueless as to what will get a game accepted or rejected on Steam, all they know is that there's a 99% chance you get rejected. Apparently you don't even get any feedback on rejection.

As for their financial interest, Valve wants to keep Steam from being flooded by mediocre crap as happens with more open stores like the iOS App Store, as that only leads to situations where users won't browse around since everything is crap, and for developers it means nothing to get your game onto the platform (whereas with Steam it's "HOLY SHIT I MANAGED TO GET ON STEAM").

The statistics do not support your hypothesis.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steam_(software)
>As of January 2012[update], there are over 1500 games available through Steam,[4] and 40 million active user accounts.[5]

>During Apple's 2012 Worldwide Developer's Conference, Apple CEO Tim Cook announced that the App Store boasts 400 million accounts with registered credit cards, as well as 650,000 available apps to download.

It must be mentioned that iOS App Store isn't that "open" either. Apple is known for their censorship and related policies.

While having a lot of free time makes it harder to actually start doing these sort of things...
You also dispose of more time to actually translate when you start doing it.

cudder this is the problem crashmanx is having
>Not exactly but close. I can't get the text to fit, yes. However the file size isn't the issue. Whenever I edit text out side of specific areas (I.E. the Music Menu or certain sub menus) it causes overlaps or over spaces. So we end up with either 1 character with 2 spaces or 2 characters in one space. I can't fit all of the text like that. Makes shit a pain. Also I can't extract the images properly from the DATAUMD.CPK even using the company's own CPK program. When I do I get about 1,000 files that are just labeled with a .bin extension.

So if I can get around either of those (eventually) then I can get a full on translation going.

Watch out guys, Cudder is a big shot. He has connections with the higher ups on 4chan and he's privy to sensitive information that must never be leaked to the public. This is a matter of national security.

The only advice I can give him is to persevere. We don't have documentation on every file format and for the ones we do, can only answer specific questions (like "what is the purpose of the 2 bytes following the X field in the Y structure"). As I said before our email is posted already in this thread.

Hey guys I found the cure to cancer.

Unfortunately, we aren't allowed to disclose anything yet and I only mention it because nobody else did. In fact, we haven't made any notable progress towards cancer actually getting cured, but my clients have expressed great interest and we're working on negotiations to distribute the cure to cancer since there are a lot of logistics involved. I'd answer your questions, but that might take five minutes and that's simply time that I, a working professional, cannot afford to spare. However I will respond to your unrelated troll comments so long as I can think of a counterargument (I'm far too busy to answer genuine, sound complaints that I can't answer).

(Weekly shitposter here--you might also know me as longpost.) I don't like to compete with Cudder, because it kills the thread too quickly if we're both posting. This thread is very important to me, for obvious reasons (spreading the word, catylizing the fall, etc. etc.), so I tend not to post here at all when I sense Cudder is going to wash in and shit on things himself. I don't do this out of any kind of deference to Cudder: I don't consider him a superior or role model to myself, and I don't believe in his efforts to ruin the scene. The reasons for this should be obvious (I don't think anyone here likes Cudder any more than I do!), so I've never gone far in laying them out, but it should suffice to say, bluntly, that I think Cudder's method is too hamfisted. There's no art, subtlety, or intrigue to it. It's not that I believe that the scene should die a memorably death because I respect or revere it, it's because I want to watch something spectacular. I want to be impressed. Certainly, "insurmountable volume of poor quality work" (a la Cudder) or "hyper-accessibility and financial ruin" (a la Aaeru) would kill it, but if things were to end so mundanely, I think all our collective work up to this point would be for nothing! This scene could've died without /jp/ ever existing! Where's the romance in that?

Whose hands would you want to see stained with our blood?

>> No.9362885

>>9362722
You hint at /jp/'s role in the downfall, and I think you might have something there. I have recently begun to suspect that /jp/ may in fact be an unwitting pawn in Moogy's hand. I do not believe this was always the case, but Ixrec's influence on this place has been fading, and Moogy's crew seems to have changed strategy. Was this a lapse in Ixrec's judgement? Or perhaps this is all within his calculations and he is simply biding his time, waiting for a chance to make his move. The upcoming months will be interesting, indeed.

What do you make of the mysterious disappearance of Yandere Translations, shitposter-kun? A simple hosting problem, or is there something more sinister at work?

>insurmountable volume of poor quality work
It's interesting to note that people were complaining about China in the same way several decades ago. Their growth is starting to slow down now, and India will be the next big thing. Far from the "death" you describe, it will be the beginning of a new era of growth.

I'm of the opposite gender.

Ixrec's brief recusement from the public focus is surely within the scope is his plans: he chose a very long project when he started Rewrite, hoping, I can only suppose, that the impact value of the title would offset the months of relative news-unworthiness. Perhaps he hoped that the expansion of his franchise to include a second translator under his control would provide sufficient drama during his long project, moreso than it has. I'd wager that our current situation is still within his calculations, though. TLwiki's resurgence of late seems to have been the result of their having played their trump card, a series of formerly secret projects, and projects of great impact, no less. Surely they can't keep that up, though. Perhaps TLwiki has estimated the end-times to be sooner than Ixrec, their spawn. Or perhaps Ixrec has it in mind to wait them out and establish hegemony under his brand (surely with a trump card or two of his own) before he allows us to breathe our last. But should we allow that?
