I always feel inferior because it seems like everyone who posts seriously on 4chan has a degree in everything. Everyone knows all this shit about math and science and I don't know much of anything. Not only does everyone seem to know everything, they also always claim it's basic high school material. When I was in high school we didn't learn shit. If I try to learn math on my own, I don't even understand it anyway.

I'm pretty sure my IQ is far below average as well, but I'm too afraid to take a test and verify this. I always read very slowly. Often, I also forget what I was just thinking about. It's an understanding between the speaker and the audience (or I guess the poster and the rest of /jp/). By that, I mean it's generally understood that you're not typing "LOL THATS SO FUNNY xD!!!" as a legitimate response to the content within the post, but as a comment about the post or about the type of person who would post that sort of thing.

Thus it functions as metacommentary (i.e. commentary about the thread) instead of participatory commentary. There is a difference between good and bad commentary of that nature, though (e.g. the "LOL (...)" would usually be bad metacommentary, but in certain contexts it might work). It's the understanding between speaker and audience I mentioned in the first paragraph. The assumption for irony is that two parties know something another isn't privy to. Sometimes these two parties are the writer and audience, sometimes it's a character or group of characters and the audience, et cetera, but there's a third party that's ignorant of the humorous aspect of the situation. I have thought long and hard about said question.
I figured that it is very broad and that many similar things about life and the universe can be asked in a similar manner.
So I started to back-peddle the question until I could find one I could successfully answer.

What is the meaning of life?
What is the meaning of all life and the life of any living thing all together?
If the entire universe was dead and just floating matter, would there be a meaning or reason to bring even a speck of life into it?
What is the meaning to all the matter in the universe?
If there is no life, does the floating matter and energy serve a purpose or have a meaning? If there was nothing, would there be a reason or would there bring a meaning to have something? What if there is truly nothing and the universe is now empty and devoid of everything and anything? Complete nothingness. Would there be a purpose to bring something into existence?
What is the meaning of existence?
This is the last question I reached. Is there meaning to any existence at all?

My current conclusion is yes, and it is to simply exist. To bring an existence to nonexistence. For nothingness cannot exist without a something. Nonexistence can't exist or even be a concept without an existence. Everything has and needs an opposite. So that's us, an existence. An existence to nonexistence.

Sorry if this all sounds stupid or makes no sense. It's probably not deep or intellectual. I just thought I would share my thoughts on this subject with /jp/. I never really shared them with anyone else.

Everyone seems to be fixated on attributing a meaning to life and existence, but does there really need to be a reason behind these things? I don't know if there's an ultimate entity who orchestrates the universe with a plan in mind, but unless that's the case I think the explanation behind the things that be is that well, there isn't any. If you ask me, we aren't here to fulfill a purpose. We aren't here to serve a higher will. We aren't pre-programmed, nor does fate urge us onward--we aren't meant to do anything in particular. There is no meaning to life, and there doesn't need to be, either. Our existences are mere chance occurrences in the grand course of time.

I think a large percentage of /jp/ users, maybe especially NEETs, spend an inordinate amount of their free time exploring pursuits that actually interest them, rather than those imposed on them by a job or even a formal education.

Naturally smart people with a ton of time on their hands will ALWAYS tend towards hyper-analysis of themselves and the world around them, ultimately leading themselves to reading others interpretations of the same situations, either through literature, discussion, or philosophy.

To say nothing of most of our hobbies being related in one way or another to technology and budget demands that the upkeep and maintenance of technology be conducted in the least expensive method available, i.e. ourselves.

People who have been NEETs for years and years have read, have studied, have learned... and all of their own volition, which is the purest source of education - enrichment.

Oh, don't be like that. You learn by asking questions. I'm just not very well informed of my resources. I might as well plan things out properly instead of jumping in headfirst. Even for things as simple as "learning," there are different methods that more experienced people could advise me on.

What I'd like to do is to sharpen my intelligence in general. Will general reading help me get there? I guess that's what I'm asking.

Yes, that's probably to be expected. I want to be well-rounded in my approach though, so I'll probably have to change things up every now and then.

But I just can't imagine learning the high level maths that are actually useful through a book being any fun.

I'm still not agreeing with you. I think you'd be hardpressed finding a direct connection between intelligence and tastes.
If anything, you could say it was a sign of your development, but that would be a very elitist viewpoint, putting one kind of tastes above all others.
To prove my point, age should not affect your intelligence, and yet people are reported changing their tastes while growing up.
Even I, a person that puts familiarity first and tastes last, have different "interests" now than I did a couple of years ago.

No, I don't. I wanted to add that development probably wasn't the right word, but that didn't seem to be good for the flow of the text so I left it out.
As far as I understand matters, your intelligence does not really change all that much during your life - it is only your knowledge and point of view that change. Of course I'm no scientist, so I may very well be wrong.
But even IF I am wrong, just imagine 2 extremes, one very shallow piece of entertainment media, one very, deep one. I guarantee you that there would be an overlap of the prospective audiences. I am saying "prospective" because both items would need to be known at a sufficient level to actually attract anybody.
Thus liking (or disliking) something cannot serve as measurement of one's intelligence, no matter how hard people try to convince you of this.

>Is there meaning to any existence at all?

>My current conclusion is yes, and it is to simply exist. To bring an existence to nonexistence.
Of all the interesting things that matter can do, you only care about its effect on nothing? The only important thing you see about existence is that it creates a nice contrast to lack of existence?

Without a God, there can be no divine will or meaning behind it all. A very common unconscious atheist belief is the belief in nature. This expresses itself in phrases such as "That's unnatural", meaning that nature did not plan for this to happen - when the truth is that there is no transcient, natural overmind that planned anything at all - unless you believe in that sort of thing. It is also this nature which you are currently trying to derive your meaning from.

So, if there is neither God nor nature, that leaves you.

Does your life (or life in general) mean anything to you? Then that shall be your answer.

Debating on the meaning of life makes no sense.

What the fuck do people even mean by that? Is there some endgame goal like in some computer game or something that we should try to achieve? Of course not, you fucking nerds. The only way you could believe in a "meaning" to life is if you were some kind of religious nutjob.
