Retsupurae is fun in the same way MST3K is fun, but sometimes it feels like they're what MST3K would be if they riffed 2001: A Space Odyssey as though it was a bad film and you couldn't take them seriously. Other times they're not very witty and just outright douchebags, usually because they've picked videos that aren't that bad (by YouTube standards).

A lot of their videos are brilliant though, like the NaViGaTR ones and that British guy who LPed Super Mario 64.

SA was basically 4chan before 4chan, but a little more adult (for better or for worse) and avoided a lot of the bullshit associated with forums at the time. Similarly, Reddit was actually pretty decent when it started. It was basically like Old Slashdot 2.0, then it branched out into less "geeky" stuff (or at least, more "pop geeky" stuff) and died horribly. Makes me feel sorry for people like Paul Graham.

When the LP forum started it was basically the only place to actually get any competent LPs, screenshot or otherwise. It rapidly dropped in quality and usefulness between people getting fed up with how the board was and branching out or people just dropping LPs. There are a lot of places out there with competent LPs now, even youtube is getting there. There really is no reason to bother with SA anymore.
