Well, I play violin and I have some things in the works.

First, I am trying to develop more finger independence, since my muscle memory for playing is dependent on where my first (index) finger is placed, resulting in the rest following. I am working on this by developing muscle memory for the rest of my fingers to do the same, so my 2nd(middle) finger can lead in my 3rd, 4th and 1st by it being placed first. This skill would allow me to play songs like Dance of Witches, where it goes from open A to C, where I would use my 2nd finger.

I also have terrible string transitioning, they are not smooth and it makes it hard to play songs like Infinite Nightmare. Most passages in this song have constant string crossings and with weak skill in that department it is hard to play a song that is high tempo like Infinite Nightmare.

One last bit, songs that get quite high, like say 3rd position E on E string are tricky for me because I can only go as high as D on E string comfortably on 3rd position. I have to learn how to be able to comfortably reach higher than D when I am in high positions. So I need to learn how to stretch my 4th to hit D# and E and learn how to set up for 5th position. Songs like Higan Retour, Gensokyo the gods loved, and Hartmanns Youkai Girl present these problems.

I should do etudes but I don't feel productive with them.

Oh, and speed and control are always an issue. Those things are very broad skills that come with time and practice. I can't really practice speed without practicing control and to practice control I have to identify what exactly I am having trouble controlling, then work on that and allow my brain to develop muscle memory for that action. So speed is not something that is worked on by itself.

Just a WIP from the sketch from before. This time with lines and basic flats. A lot of color is probably going to change as I work on the picture.

I also put my VN work on back burner, it's a bit too difficult to do by myself and no one really knows about the concept. So i'm going to be putting the story and world concepts out in like character primers so anyone can read them if they want to.

I want to start drawing, but I don't know how to really begin. I know that it's a bunch of techniques that are meshed together to create something, but I don't know where I should begin when it comes to creating technique

I wanna draw cartoonish drawings, things like >>9268703

Do I just start trying to draw like that? Pic is how I draw at the moment. It's MS paint work and the style and technique are pretty much stagnanted, it cant be improved beyond this. I would need to rehaul my entire drawing skill set (which is, nothing really).

Not him, but when you do it quickly, you commit it to muscle memory better. If you take a very long time trying to copy something, it becomes less like you're drawing and more like you're replicating it , which is not what you want. You just want the basic ideas behind the strokes of the drawing or whatever.

You're going to likely absolutely hate every that you draw unless you are completely conceited that it's amazing. Hold onto this hatred, because it's how you will push yourself to become better. Artists who don't have themselves enough stagnate.

I went ahead and started doodling for the first time in my life.

I learned that with making these kinds of heads, its about making a base with a simple shape (like an oval), then detailing the oval with accessories like hair, or a hat, band, whatever. Also giving the shape eyes and stuff.

So if I were to improve on this, I would have to learn how to make hair that looks good, then once I have my little blob with hair, I can put eyes and a mouth or whatever which are all little techniques on their own. So it's all about putting all of these together to create a finished product. For this specific kind of drawing, that is the break down of the techniques I should individually work on to create a good piece of work.

Her right arm isn't attached to the elbow, not to mention it just seems to disappear behind her head. The legs are too short compared to the thighs (or thighs too long, whichever you prefer). She's leaning so far back that with her head in that position, her neck would snap - rotate the image so that the torso is upright and you'll see. On the same note, her left boob isn't quite where it should be.

Concerning folds, your best bet is to use references a lot.

What I see:

Legs: the other one would be bent underneath, as she's slightly falling leftward. Most people use the leg closest to the fall to try to break the fall first, so the left leg would be bent and the right one extended to try to maintain balance.

Her right arm seems unexciting - if she's grasping for something and failing it'd be fully extended, fingers especially. Note that she would only be grasping for something if there's something there (even if it's just a wall) - here, nothing is shown, and the way she's falling and looking implies there shouldn't be anything.

In general, her pose is too composed and secure, as if it were static. Try to visualize the motion from the start of the fall - why she got there, and what little motions would happen because of that. Her left arm (relaxed), neck (straight, slightly downward but normal), and lack of torso twist (which would happen with a desperate grasp) all show that she's not that stressed by falling, which is obviously bad.
