Serious reply though, if you haven't played La Mulana yet (It's about as fucking popular by now as Cave Story nice job recommending the very obvious) you might want to wait a little while more.

The Wii version with 16 bit graphics and extras is going to be ported to PC soon sometime this year.
Maybe try looking up Maze of Gallous (whatever you spell) remake, it has influenced and has a tileset by the same guy who did La Mulana.
