There were just as many fail and forced memes back then as there is now.

The difference lies in that there were less people around to post bullshit thus leading to slow moving boards, and consequently more people cared about creating original content (even if those were just bad shops).

Original content these days are usually just MSPaint threads (GodHand, Card Crusher, etc). No one knows what effort means anymore.

Putting aside /b/ being extremely shit, it feels pointless to put effort into something that either won't be looked at or not appreciated. And besides, I'm not here to amuse, or be amused by, rabid interactive MySpace teenagers. We come from very different worlds, and we can't belong together. /jp/, despite the infinitely recursive trolling, feels a lot like home. And I like it.

>Why do you guys care so much about /b/?

/b/ used to have occasionally better threads about, for example, science than many "serious" boards. Sometimes. Probably because everyone was Anonymous and you had to actually prove your point instead of using your e-reputation to prove how wise and smart you are. Also, as no one was your friend people didn't agree with you just because you had exchanged e-hugs.

You wanna know what I think? I think Epic Fail Guy is the very symbol of a newfag. Especially after this Scientology shit.

Yeah, I remember his first few debuts, and yeah, they were funny. But then every single fucking person tries to imitate his fail and manage to fail even moreso than EFG.

And then there came the "War against Scientology." Apparently, wearing a "EFG mask" is a symbol of Anonymous now. And there was this one time in /r/ a few days ago, when I saw this request of this guy losing his "Anonymous mask" and wanted to know where to get them, a large chunk of me died on the inside.

I'm pretty sure at least 1/2 of them don't even know that the mask was from V for Vendetta.

In fact, it was drawfags who started to kill /b/. Then raidfags eventually killed /b/. And now camwhores are keeping /b/ dead.

4chan ratings:

/b/ - [10,000]
/v/ - [1,000]
/a/ - [500]

Because moot is such an E-peening faggot, he sold out the rest of 4chan to normalfags. All moot cares about is becoming the biggest forum on the internets. When moot isn't bragging about his Alexa traffic ranking he's busy bragging about how 4chan surpassed somethingawful and Futaba in size. Pic related.

Adult Swim ratings:

Family Guy - [1,300,000]
Code Geass - [330,000]
Death Note - [350,000]

Adult Swim (one of the few timeslots in America that shows animu) decided to show less animu because they're shitty American comedy shows received more ratings. Which in my opinion is retarded. Things like Family Guy could be found every where on TV. Animu on the other hand is rare.

moot could have either a) killed /b/ when it was becoming too American, or b) help assimilate /b/ into the Futaba culture so that /b/ would be more otaku.

In the same way that Family Guy already had its place on TV networks, /b/ also already had its place on the Internets. Websites like somethingawful were already lawless shitholes (long before /b/). In the case of 2channel. It gave home to million of insecure otakus who were to shy to rage on the Internets. But in the case of America and Europe, we didn't give a shit what someone else thought of us on the Internets. Being Anonymous didn't change the way I talked on the Internets. Back before I became an Anonymous my username was troll.

But what surprises me is that moot said recently that 4chan doesn't receive a lot of money from advertisement. So if /b/ isn't paying for itself why the fuck does 4chan still have /b/? 4chan is supposed to be a site about Japanese culture. 99.9% of all websites are based on American shit. Is it too much to ask for one site (4chan) to be based on Japanese culture?

Oh how I've debated this in my time. Here's the short version:
People have always been illiterate. The only difference now is that they have a medium to broadcast their illiteracy, and thus we are exposed to it and think there are a lot more illiterate people. If anything, because of the Internet being primarily a text-based medium (well it was until these few years anyway), and especially with things like in-built spell checkers that tell you where you've gone wrong, people's language skills have actually IMPROVED and not declined.

That is all. Continue your thread.

The era of world2ch was a magical time. It was like the Wild West, virgin territory to be raped and pillaged by those who colonized it. Both Japanese and Westerners held hands, danced naked under the stars, and shared the love that is flaming the fuck out of every goddamned shitty thread that ever existed. It was kinda like Woodstock, but without the venereal diseases.

Epic threads and posters came out of that time. YARANAIKA, get out of my internet, and Apology Juice was first introduced to the West here. Epic threads like "I want to be a girl like Sakura-tan", "Yoshinoya", and the Great Golgolmois thread was birthed. Shitty gimmicks like Caveman came about (and gave birth to the proto-/b/tard).

Unfortunately, 4chan came about and sucked all the Western posters away. RIR6 (world2ch's moot) did a shitty job upkeeping the server. And without Westerners to flame and antagonize, world2ch's Japanese population went back to 2ch.

That's the story, in a nutshell.
