I would imagine it's because

A person starts out watching anime and reading manga. Easy exercises. As you age you get bored of seeing the same thing again and again. /jp/ has seen more anime than /a/. Far more. We've moved on from anime and started reading vns and untranslated galge. Because we can.

We're not like /a/. Most of us here understand at least enough Japanese to enjoy untranslated games. Since those things were kicked off /a/ it means the older population moved here.

I don't even think VNs are a good alternative to anime, it's basically the same content but with more words words words.

I'd say there's a lot of untranslated manga that feels pretty fresh, but I don't how I could find them.
