"Internet memes" are stupid the moment they are identified as such.

Memes are really just an identifying trait of a particular group or culture. But then some attention seeking faggot will go "I am part of your group. I can speak like you do. I know what you're talking about. This little in-joke we have is so funny, right guys. Please respond, lol". Suddenly other attention-seeking faggots will go "Oh, I see. I am part of your group, too. Please respond, lol". So they rip the meme out of it's context and use it as nothing but an identifying sign they shout to each other, like drunk idiots chanting at a football game.

Suddenly the once slightly amusing saying has transformed into a meaningless phrase and the once cozy place to talk about news or whatever seems to be full of drunk hooligans. What the fuck.

I lurked once or twice and I didn't see all the *le rage comics stuff people make fun of. What I saw (and what bugged me more) was stupid "real life" or "internet controversial" stuff that was previously confined to magazines aimed at middle-aged women. "I just saved a cat's life", "TIL Tesla liked bread", "For every upvote I get, I'll donate a dollar to 90s video games to stop SOPA".

Seems hypocritical to complain about it on 4chan I guess, but there's a horrible, contemporary blogosphere air about Reddit that makes me cringe.

I think most of the actual spammers realize they're not funny -- they're trolling or just being silly.

Memes are fine in moderation. It's similar to smilies (outside of 4chan). On a mailing list or in IRC or whatever you can use :-) to great effect. It's useful to show that you're being lighthearted or joking so people don't misunderstand what you're saying. But if you act like a 13-year-old and put smilies every sentence it's annoying as fuck, and that's why smilies now carry a stigma on sites like 4chan.
Cursing is another good example.

I think the serious posters on /jp/ get it right. e.g. you used a couple of catchphrases in your post, but it's also clear you're intelligent, and they made the post more clear and fun to read.

I love inseminating /jp/ with the up and coming memes of other boards and watching them latch onto them as if they were their own. What makes it funny is how much they hate the rest of 4chan. Because of that you choose not to even browse other boards. That hatred is what makes it so easy, you have no idea what's going on in the outside world and I can plant tainted seeds unnoticed. Not all of them grow, but when they do it's just perfect. You all go around spouting shit, later find out it isn't "your" meme and then retroactively justify yourself under the veil of irony.
