The issue with Tesla is that he'd come up with all these fantastics theories and wouldn't give a fuck about persuing them.
He had the attention span of 5 years old, so he come up with a bunch of awesome stuff, but others explored and made usable those ideas.
He would've probably done wonders in a laboratory with a dozen assistants and unlimited funding, but the scientific community was, is and will always be as closed minded as the clergy.
Einstein had to wait for an eclipse and had to provide visual proof before his theories were taken seriously.
