Hey /jp/

Did any of you use the Genki textbooks when lerning Japanese?

How did you keep yourself from reading the romanji printed below the hiragana/katakana?

Pic related. This book needs spoiler tags.

I couldn't, but it goes away after the first few chapters.

I didn't. I'm a Tae Kim subhuman.

I'm a Genki secondary, though.

Thanks guys, I guess I'll just cover the romanji with notepad or something.

I was very upset when I got beyond Genki II

Intermediate Japanese fucking sucked..it didn't have any fun characters and even though I had taken Japanese for 3 semesters beforehand, some of the kanji were hard to read/I didn't know.

The teacher edition had no romaji at all if I recall correctly.
And I think it goes away later too in the student editions.
