Lately I've been using a strict schedule as a form of escapism. I'm not going to post the whole thing but it goes somewhat like this:

>6:30
Wake up
6:35
>Shower
>6:43
Brush teeth
>6:45
Eat breakfast (two slices of bread)
>6:50
Cycle to work
>7:00-15:00
Work
>15:00-16:30
Free time
>16:30
Dinner
>17:00
Studying (programming/Japanese)
>19:00
Anime/VNs/Games/etc
>20:30
Free time
>21:30
Book reading
>22:50
Brush teeth, prepare for bed
>23:00
Go to bed

So far it's been working really well. And yes, I actually have a job.

Actually no, it isn't. At least not for me. I lived as a hikki for over two years and all I ever did was worry about things. I've actually watched more anime and read more VNs than I did when I had nothing but free time. When you have a set schedule, there's no time for needless worrying, no time for boredom. I'm an automaton that does what it's programmed to do. There's no ``me'' anymore, just a set of rules.

How is this not escapism?

I don't see how it's any different from spending your whole day on the internet. Both reach the same goal in the end: a day passes and you start all over again the next morning/afternoon. I just prefer to make some money in the process.

You are right and wrong. It really depends on how you see work. Most people see it as a chore that they have to put up with but that guy seems to see it was a way to escape boredom.

Is excessive escapism wrong if you are genuinely happy? I suppose not, but there is nothing like that for me.
I'm disgusted with that whole waifu, dakimakura etc stuff, but at the same time I'm jealous of the people capable of being happy with just that.

>> No.9162743

>>9161637
What makes you say that escapism would be wrong in the first place?

Like a friend of mine used to say - this is poorly translated - "(The meaning of) life is an opportunity to search for ways to escape from it."

>> No.9162772

>>9161637
Disliking escapism is missing the point. It takes a world with meaningless limitations (eg. humans can't fly) and assumes it's the norm, and then says that everything else must abide by that norm (eg. longing to fly is foolish). Escapism is only a problem when it makes your life unsustainable, but even then it's up to the discretion of the person in question.

>> No.9163011

>>9162743
>>9162772
I don't dislike escapism, that's why I said "excessive escapism".
Lately I haven't been able to find anything that would satisfy my escapist needs, stuff like video games, anime etc. feels dull to me and leaves me with empty feeling. Maybe it's just a burnout, I don't know.
It's just that you can't have constant high inner happiness or the happiness what, for example, has some woman that has stable career and nice family; with escapism.
But it seems to me that hard-core otakus are capable of that, just with damikakura and simlar things.

>> No.9163071

>>9163011
With me there's a constant need to better and refine the things I do. If what you're doing doesn't satisfy then maybe you need something more mature in the same vein. You get better at something every day, after all.

>> No.9163096

A clarification, by more mature I mean something like a better game, not a more 'adult' hobby or something like that.
