How many of you who can speak Japanese visit japanese image-/textboards?
How different are they from ours and how do they react to gaijins?

How about in 2ch's Japanese Pride board?

>> No.9145485

Going on a Japanese board and saying "btw I'm a gaijin" seems to me like the exact same thing as coming to 4chan and saying "btw I'm a girl"; that is, it seems like a shameless attention whore move. Therefore, I don't do it often, and thankfully I speak Japanese well enough that people assume I'm Japanese unless I state otherwise.

There's this one well known poster on Futaba's img who's from like Austria I think, everyone knows him as "Austria". He's like the one well known white namefag on img. I'm white too, and I post there a fair bit, but I don't usually say anything about being white. I also happen to live in Japan, and I go to Futaba meetups a lot because I like offline meetups in general. Inevitably, when people who I haven't met before show up, they always say "oh shit, are you Austria?" And I have to explain that no, I'm not him, I'm just a random white guy who happens to post on the board. It's kind of like if you went to a /jp/ meetup, and there was a black guy there, you'd probably ask if he was Arc, right?

Anyway, most Japanese message board users, Futaba, 2ch, or otherwise, don't really care what race you are. Everyone makes fun of coreans and chinks online, but it's the same as /b/tards talking about bix noods; nobody is really hardcore right wing or racist. And since it's the internet, there's no way to know that another poster isn't Japanese anyway unless you meet irl. So yeah it pretty much doesn't matter.

>> No.9145493

>>9145485
Do they have a lot of offline meetings ? I can't imagine 4chan offline meeting would be any good.

>> No.9145514

There are 2ch meetups everyday, 24 hours a day. If you live in Tokyo, you can pretty much go out anytime and meetup with other Anons from 2ch. It's a mixed bag, sometimes really fun, sometimes really lame, and sometimes irritating because everyone is trying to hookup with the one or two girls who happen to show up.

Futaba offline meetups on the otherhand aren't that common, but they are really high quality when they do happen. There is a Futaba doujin convention once a year, around which there are usually a number of fun meetups. I admit this sounds kind of like a stereotypical misogynist /jp/ thing to say, but one of the best things about these meetups is that there are no girls there, and thus nobody is trying to hookup.

I don't know how "hard" it is, because I sort of just randomly did things until I got the job I have now, and it happened to work out.

I started out living over here as a student in a college for study abroad folks, then quit school and was a neet for a year or so. When my visa was going to run out, I entered another normal Japanese school (senmon gakkou) since my Japanese was pretty fluent by that point. After graduating from there I was a neet again for a while, and in debt from all the education fees. After that I again started working a job to update my visa, but quit again and became a neet for quite a long time. Then when things were really looking bad for me I found my current job which I'm fairly satisfied with.

So /jp/,I'm thinking of moving to Japan, especially considering my Japanese is very fluent from all that vidya, eroge, 2ch browsing, etc., so I'm thinking of applying for a Japanese university. The one thing that makes me reluctant to pursue this is the fact that I'm half black, and basically look like a black person except my skin color is a dark tan rather than brown. So my question is, in addition to being a gaijin, would I have it significantly harder than a white gaijin, or are all Americans the the same to them?

Being raised by 4chan and all, my insecurity about the fact that I'm half black is probably the biggest reason I'm a hikikomori, and I often find myself harboring feelings of resentment toward my white father for breeding with a black woman. It doesn't help that I honestly do see the average nigger as subhuman, considering the average IQ of an African-American is what, 80? And it shows. It makes me sick knowing that I will forever be associated with that group of people.

Futaba meetups are a lot of fun like I said, but they are not that common. Often times the Futaba meetups I go to are very large scale and are planned around the Futaba Gakuensai doujin event. Futaba users tend to be very knowledgeable about pretty much all kinds of otaku and internet culture, much more so than 2ch users or other otaku. They are also extremely perverted. So just drinking and talking is very fun. But Futaba meetups are rare, and usually just an extension of img. the real "meetup culture" is on 2ch.

2ch meetups are sometimes fun, and sometimes shitty. Often a bunch of uninteresting "normal" people show up, or a girl or 2 comes, and then everyone is just competing for the girl's attention. There's lots of different continuing 2ch meetup threads with different themes, and meetups happening literally everyday, all over the place. (I could go walk to one right now if I wanted.) The quality of the meetup and the type of people who show up depend a lot on the climate of the thread. But despite them being shitty I still go to a ton of them.

>> No.9151506

One thing I think a lot of /jp/ers misunderstand is that meetups aren't for making friends. That's the main reason I like them in fact; they allow for real life interaction with other like minded people, without and of the bullshit that comes with having friends. When I'm done with a meetup, I go home and never contact the people again. It's not because I didn't like them, it's just because I prefer not having to "keep in touch" with people. Sometimes I'll meet the same person again, and we'll be like "oh yeah, we've met before." But with 2ch at least, it's almost always new people because the turnover rate is so high. In fact, I'm usually considered a really "oldfag" when I mention that I've been going to 2ch meetups for about 5 or 6 years or so.

In that way, 2ch meetups are really the closest thing to Anonymous posting that you can get in real life, which is why I'm so addicted to them I think. Often times there will be obnoxious people there, and a lot of times someone will get blasted in the thread afterwards. But people brush it off, because really it's about the same as having an Anon call you a faggot online. A lot of people at 2ch meetups talk about how they want real friends and a real social life, not the artificial friends offered from meetups. But personally, I much prefer the meetups. A lot of times I can talk about things that I'm not sure I'd be comfortable talking about with someone who wasn't a random Anonymous 2channler. I don't consider myself a social person, and I consider myself pretty shy, but for some reason when it's a meetup, I can talk to people the same way as if I was posting online.

>> No.9151508

Another thing I wanted to touch on that always confuses me when discussions about living in Japan come up is the idea that Japanese people are racist against white people and that living in Japan is somehow hard, like in the same way it might be hard for a black person living before the civil rights movement. There's really no discrimination like that. I've never gotten any negative comments about being white at meetups, or online afterwards, and trust me, people don't hold back on 2ch, if they have something to say they let it out. 2channelrs are surprised to see a white guy often, but most people get over the novelty within a couple minutes. About the worst thing that can happen is I'll be trying to talk about anime or whatever with one guy, and another jackass will keep asking questions about America, or asking how to say XYZ in English, and so on, and it gets old. But that's not racism, just general asshattery. And sometimes it's actually nice because it provides a conversation starter, or something to fill awkward silences. In fact, now that I think of it, one of the non-Japanese things I end up talking about most is 4chan, and how it's similar/different to Japanese message boards, since a lot of people are interested in that and I like talking about it.

Damn I typed a lot. I need to go to bed soon. Sorry for blog posting.
