Not to mention they are becoming similar to Touhou fandom from Japan.

Fans make tons of fan art, music, and even games.

>> No.9138632

Yes and people who disagree are deluding themselves.

The west was long overdue for its own equivalent of moe culture and it's finally been delivered in spades in the form of MLP.

Every piece of the puzzle is there, it's almost frightening.

The only problem now is the question of longevity, if MLP only lasts a couple more seasons this budding culture could collapse, like a star that shone just a little too bright and burnt itself out. However the lasting appeal of moe has been getting called into question for years now and look how that turned out.

The origin of moe culture in Japan was in '80s shoujo anime like Minky Momo and Creamy Mami, though. Exclusively seinen moe anime is a relatively recent thing.

I wonder how much money the company that produces MLP:FiM has made off of bronies? Probably not all that much so it would never be profitable to produce anything equivalent to late-night moe anime in the West. I doubt it will be a long-lasting thing, at least. As long as the ponyfags don't get into anime after MLP ends I don't really care, though.

I think that there are a large number of people for whom a major draw of being in the MLP fandom is being in the MLP fandom itself (the social aspect). I don't think they'd be quite as interested if they were put in a situation where none of their friends, offline or online, had any interest in MLP. But this is just my speculation, I've watched one episode in my life and don't know anything about what fans get up to.

A massive amount of Touhou's appeal is fan-related but that's mostly the fanwork talking and not the fandom itself, if you can see what I'm getting at. You could issue a gag order forbidding one to talk about Touhou to anybody, ever and they would stay committed fans.

MLP's fandom is something like a mutated offshoot of it, that arose through convergent evolution ... but they are not one in the same. Apparently many bronies either have never heard of moe shows or downright don't even like anime at all. How new can you be, to like a show for moe-like qualities and not even want to know what moe is? I'll tell you how new, so new that they wouldn't even be fucking Gaia tier. Who could possibly tolerate that when you are already light years ahead of such people? Hence for the most part, moe otaku tend to fucking hate MLP's fans and hence often the show by extension.

So, while at first glance they may appear similar, they are diametrically opposed in terms of freely mingling with each other (which would suggest a real link). MLP faggots as far as I know, generally don't have the balls to test the waters of moe shows ... I suppose it could be because many of them already are going through a lot of un-mentioned self-questioning as it is from getting into mlp, after all its popularity spread by viral bandwagoning ... and hence, those people don't want to complicate their lives even further by seeing how far down the rabbit hole goes. On the other hand people like us simply cannot get into MLP because we're already in wonderland as it is, and hence have no use for some furry kid show that's been hijacked/forced into a role by men. I suppose you could say bronies metaphorically raped their kid's show that they adore, while moe otaku generally like things made by and for each other (adult men), not to mention created an entire industry out of it.

you mean "moe buta." "moe otaku" is about the same thing but doesn't carry so much of an inherent meaning that makes them look like shit.

and no they are not comparable, MLP is a fad and "moe"(or what you are referring to) is an art style and brand of characterization/storytelling.

MLP's following may evolve their own brand of furry art and storytelling, and if that becomes the case, then yes they are equivalent.

i'm sorry to say this but if you're going to compare MLP to something compare it to something relevant like pokemon(which is a single series that has been enormously popular for a long, long time) and not an entire genre. touhou is a somewhat relevant comparison too, but i think MLP falls closer to pokemon than anything else.

Western moe is in its infancy. If it spreads, there will be western-moe things targeted at adults.

I see no reason for hating mlp fans while you browse /jp/ other than thinking you are somehow superior because you are "less childish".
Why would someone appear more superior than mlp fans?
I can't think of any other reason than social acceptance

depends on the society and on the "cartoon".

There are places where erotic graphic novel artists are actually taken in high consideration.

No, you don't get it, touhou is good because of comiket and all the fan derived stuff that come from it, it's manchildren entertainment made from manchildren for manchildren. Not even talking about porn, mostly everything in toho has lots of really obscure arcade game references and sex jokes that children wouldn't get.

MLP only started having movie and star trek references, etc, recently.
And yes both are equally creepy if you bring it up in real life.

>Are MLP fans becoming equivalent of moe otaku?

No. They're fat, autistic shits that do it mostly for the irony. 2hus and anime and such have genuine appeal, especially for males, while MLP is just attracting "bronies" because it's ironic for a male to watch a show for little girls, and they feel it makes them part of something special and progressive.

Because little girls don't like difficult shmups, porn or arranged music that's why.

It's adult entertainment even though we are all manchildren.

Epic ironic brony detected.

Enjoying your ironic love for the most ironic show for adult males like you to like?

When I say I like touhou, I actually like it. When ``bronie''s like you say you like MLP it's to fit in with other bronies so you can all have a gay fistbump and talk about how ironic liking it is. There isn't a better definition of subhuman than you.

I think society would consider you a freak for stuff like that not because they are 2D but because for the average man they look like children and completely lack what they consider sexy and erotic factors.

That's true, but touhou wasn't originally meant to have such depth.
The fans created the fanbase and every aspect of it.
The same is happening with mlp right now, regardless of the original target audience

Well, one thing that's vastly superior about anime and 2hu is the relative lack of furries and anthros. Of course, there's a few here and there, but compared to western cartoons and shit, it's much less prevalent.

I don't understand why people think the ponies are cute-they're not cute. They look fucking creepy-they have stupid looking mutant faces and creepy mohawk hair from their manes. In fact, I find all furries to be creepy, if not disgusting looking.

I agree that it started as an ironic thing at first. However the MLP fandom now produces so much stuff and with season 2 catering less to kids I'm afraid it's becoming genuine for many.
